I wouldn’t mind EJ coming back for 1 year and anything $1M or hopefully less. The Avs definitely aren’t in the need for high caliber D with Toews, Makar, and Byram. They then have Manson and Girard to round out the top 5. They’re probably in the market for a bottom pair D. The goal should be to have Hunt as captain of the Eagles and MacDermid the health bomb. Cause what if Malinski isn’t ready? I’d love him to be with his $850K contract, but we don’t know. So who else is gonna play those minutes effectively? I mean I guess if you like Hunt I just think Avs can do better. Plus the market for bottom pair D isn’t exactly great either. Plus they’ll be too pricey for a team that doesn’t have money to blow.

Is Malinski ready for the show? If so, then EJ can take a hike to Anaheim.

Not just that. EJ gets injured a lot. And with Manson being on the ice 25% of the games, EJ ends up playing more minutes than he should. They could do it by committee except EJ's not going to accept a deal that would result in him spending time with the Eagles.

True. And assuming the move G in said Mittelstadt trade, they would have cap space to go after a good winger as well.

Lehky - Mack - Mikko
???? - Mittelstadt - Nuke
Newhook - Laughton - ????
???? - Meyers - LOC

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
???? - Malinski
Hunt - MacDermid

George/Frank

~roughly $11M in space for the remaining 4 roster spots.

As long as that top 6 wing is on short term deal. I like it, and gives flexibility for the future.

It could turn into a disaster, but I like Casey's chances, especially with a very strong 3C. Just make sure that winger is the best you can get.

I hate Kane as a person, but I can't get over how good of a fit he'd potentially be in that spot. He has enough confidence in himself to chase another cup on a one year deal.

You want nothing to do with Olofsson
Even as a 1 year rental?

You don’t want him for free. He’s a negative player to an extreme degree. He has one skill (shooting) and everything is beer league. Horrible hockey player

What do you think of the idea of Kane, no one ever engages me on that. Probably not that realistic of an idea, but I'd make the pitch at least.

I’m meh on it. Would rather address the issues this summer and just wait to see if he get healthy or if issues crop up. Wouldn’t be in my plans

I've got 3 combos I like now.

Arizona:
Hayton-1x1.775 rfa
Crouse-3x4.3 ufa
Valimaki-1.0 rfa

Philadelphia:
Konecny 2x5.5 ufa
Laughton -3x3 Ufa

Buffalo:
Mittelstadt 1x2.5 rfa
Olofsson 1x4.75 ufa

I'd take EJ on a legue minimum deal to basically be the 7th Dman and split time at 3RD with Malinski. But anymore then $775k and I would just move on.

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
???? - Malinski
MacDermid - EJ

Would be a reasonably deep defense, especially if they keep ~$2-2.5M to get a good #5 guy.
Mikkola at 2m?
Trade away macdermid
Fix a wrong and resign Andreas Englund

Mittelstadt could legitimately be the most inconsistent player in the NHL. Duchene has his highs and lows, but Casey's inconsistencies date back to being a junior before going to college. A lot of his attributes do match the Avs though and I think he does have the potential to be an offensive #2 in the NHL, but the problem is if he's able to string together a solid season together. He should talk to Phil Kessel because if Phil can survive the NHL, then Casey can do the same thing.

Kane would be nice on a 1 year, would he chose a 1 year?

I don't know, but I can see him of all people being willing to take a one year deal to chase more hardware. Who knows though, maybe he chases more money and a multi year deal. It's difficult for me to imagine Kane signing anywhere just to get the most money possible.

I'd check on it, but I am not closing the door on Landy actually returning.

As much as others want the team too, I don't think they are either. The right thing was done for this season though.
