Prospect Info: 2024 Draft, 9th Overall, Zayne Parekh

I would honestly consider that though. I know it probably wouldn't be the right call (losing one of our only legitimate defenders on the team for the immediate future) but god damn would I love Silayev.
I never said that I wouldn’t consider it, lol :thumbu:

While I love your proposed d corps, the thought that a soon to be 36 year old Backlund and/or 33 year old Coleman have that kind of value to any GM, let alone for Silayev, is exactly that: a dream. It would take Razzy and a 1st just to get Fitzgerald to answer the phone lol
Very unrealistic trade indeed but it’s a dream for a reason. That plus could be any of our 1sts other than our own 2026 pick and I’d be thrilled.

Pretty clear he’s going to be in the NHL at least for a 9 game stint next year.

We could really use the creativity.
Highly unlikely. His offensive game was never in question. He looked absolutely lost out there without the puck against NHL players in the preseason. Conroy/Huska will not give him 1 game of NHL time if he cant look even remotely serviceable in his own zone. I still convinced that hes 2.5 years away. 1 more CHL year, 1 full year of AHL and a partial second year in the AHL. Call it the Zary curve if you want.
Crazy to think he started the year at 15 games & 15 points.
Just being PPG seems really disappointing, lol

Is there no way he can play AHL nextyear?
Zero chance he plays anywhere but the CHL. He cannot go to the NCAA, AHL or Europe due to signing an NHL contract and transfer agreements.

Goal for him is to make the team out of camp next year. I believe it is realistic. Quinn Hughes was no stalwart when he first started out. Learning on the fly is the best way, especially if he has to be sent back to the CHL.

I fully believe he's going to make the roster.
Reminder Quinn Hughes made Chris Tanev look pedestrian as a defender in his rookie year as his partner how bad he was at the other side of the rink. Chris Tanev made Oliver Kylington look like a real top 4 option.

You stick him on a pair with someone who can defend their end of the ice, give him a lot of OZ starts, kid-glove him. PP time. He'll produce.

Looking at that top 12 scoring list, if it ain't obvious he can just jump into the NHL and aim to emulate Makar... Can we just ask him to spend another year in the OHL playing C and hope that as a backup plan, he's the 1C we may need?

The fact he's basically in the top 12 point getters of all time and with a PPG comparable to like 1/3 of those guys (many being C), holy crap.
