I really don’t think so. If things ever got to that state, I think we’d be talking about a retirement.
Well, I suppose another question along the same lines, if he's not healthy for the start of 2024-25, any chance the Avs strongly suggest he consider LTIRement to allow them to go ahead and make permanent plans for his cap space?

How receptive would Landy be after just one year of rehab?

I mean, part of the reason I'm harping on trading with Arizona is that if we could get Hayton (2C, 1yr left at 1.775M but is arbitration eligible next summer) and Crouse (top-6 winger signed for like 4.3M). Crouse doesn't have any trade or movement protection, unlike Schmaltz). So if Landy was to be able to return next season that's 4.3M that we could immediately trade to reopen room. Hell if Arizona is willing to do this, be so bold as to try and get them (or another team involved) and see if you can get Crouse down to 3.5M (someone picks up $800,000 for 4 years). What is that worth (assets wise)?

Excluding Kadri and Toews (the two I mentioned) none of those guys are near the level of players we're talking about in this thread. Especially in the center position.
That's because the Avs haven't needed a centre due to Kadri?

Your post is confusing. The Avs absolutely have been able to add big name NHL players via trade. The Avs have been one of the best trading teams since Roy left.

Is there any universe in which MacFarland buys Landy out next summer if not healthy in order to gain cap certainty? Meh, that's probably very much against the CBA though.

If he can't come back he's basically Pronger.

No reason to buy him out.

Yeah, I do think this is the last realistic attempt. He owes it to himself, and so does the organization.

But they gave him that contract. I would never expect him to retire and walk from that money. Yeah it will be inconvenient each off season, but it won't stop the team from using that cap space.

I think with the right moves the Avs could absolutely be the favorites next year... But they have to make the right moves. Which currently I have very little fait in CMac doing so.
This is so unfortunate, really hope he can start with atleast one good thing this summer

It's hard to say you need to make big changes when you make it the SCF, but I still feel like there is something off with the way the Panthers are built. It's probably the age of the D and like us, thinner depth.
