Opening shift, Gabe raced to the puck down the right side and made a good centering pass to Smith, but Smith was on his backhand and fumbled the puck.

Gabe just had a breakaway but missed with the shot.

Edit: A rough shift for Gabe. A turnover at the offensive blue line, then another at the defensive blue line.

He'll fit right in.

I’m trying to contain my excitement for Laba but it’s becoming more and more difficult. A right hand shooting center who plays a power game coming off 22 points in 35 points is pacing for over a point per game in his sophomore season.

Meanwhile Brody Lamb is building on what was a good end to his Freshman season at Minnesota where he’s over a point per game and playing an important role for his team. Another right hand center but he’s more cerebral and skilled than Laba.

Both are 20 years old (birthdays in August so will be 20 for their entire season). Back to back 4th rounders for Drury and team

What do you see as their NHL comps? Do either have middle six potential?

Yes I think they both could project as middle-6 guys. Realistically if one of them makes it that’s a coup.

It’s very interesting that Drury and team found these guys in back to back drafts, they’re practically the same age, both developing really well.

We’re seeing what Berard is doing in Hartford and I could see similar impacts for these guys. Just the fact that they’re both centers is amazing for the depth issues the organization has.

When I saw him in Tampa last year in the Frozen 4 I believe he was playing center.

Certainly a lot to be excited about with recent drafts. Cuylle, Sykora, Lamb, Laba, Berard, Perrault, Garand, Othmann

Lamb has played all positions but he's primarily a RW. He played C for a game or two earlier this season. Minnesota has had a rough go of it and was mixing it up.

Low key, I’m excited for guys like Mancini and Fortescue too. I’m not sure their offense will ever be there but they skate really well and should be effective at moving the puck up the ice.

I thought he played some center last year too, no?

If even 1/4 to 1/3 of these guys make it we could have something special. And of course we could use good skaters
