Not at the time of the draft but it's hard to see either being more than complimentary pieces.
Both are NHLers though. Gabe is still soo young, and truthfully I don’t think he could manage an NHL shift at 18 with his size, Laf and Kakko did.

In a couple years, i think Gabe could pass one or both of them, but that is speculation at this time.

I think his upside now is greater than the upside for either of them based on where they are currently. Of course, his floor is also still that of a bust, so there's a trade off.

In the old HF ratings, Laf would be like a 7.0C at this point and Kakko like a 6.5B or something. Perreault would probably be like an 8.5F, LOL.

Has he looked best at his natural LW? Where have his points come from?

Othmann's points have always come from both sides. The whole LW vs RW-thing is overblown. It really only affects how a winger plays in his own zone. When you're on your off-wing, you have to use your backhand a lot in the D-zone and some players struggle more with that than others.

Othmann, but also Cuylle, Kakko, Berard and Sýkora are quite versatile having played both sides for long stints throughout their careers.

What matters most for Othmann, is who he plays with. Not whether he's playing RW or LW.

Kaki's first season here I'd argue he wasn't ready for an NHL shift based on fitness.

He'd often end his shift early incredibly gassed after 30-35 seconds. And in a shift where he never really skated hard.

Had the Rangers been less of a tie fire in terms of depth, he should have played most of that first season in the AHL.

Stamina wise you are right, he was gassed early. I guess I was thinking more size, he was able to play in that WC and dominate vs NHLers. Got me so excited...sigh

He really should have been sent down to the AHL for the majority of his first season. The same could be said for Lafreniere...

Laf wasn’t gassed his first year but was definitely 2 steps behind mentally and physically, also could have used some time cooking in the A, but I would be one of the first to argue against that back then- can’t embarrass the franchise by sending our 1st overall down

I wonder what happened with Simon Kjellberg. He was set to play his final year at Northern Michigan and then disappeared from the roster without a peep. His brother, Joel, was also committed to NMU for 24-25, and it looks like he may have decommitted.
Joel's future plans now known
