Sturm is a true center though and Kelly you can move to wing easily. I just don’t believe we’ll have all our top 2 line guys healthy or not suspended so I’d be girding those 3rd and 4th lines with logical useable pieces for cheap.

Nah, Kelly's been fine as a center, just not 3rd line center. Sturm might be an upgrade but nowhere near enough of one to justify bringing on that salary.

Avs need to aim higher if they want to fill that 3C spot adequately. IMO Gourde might be a good fit, can't think of a whole lot of others off the top of my head.

Thinking about what could make sense capwise in a potential trade with Chicago where it's worth giving up Ivan.

Maybe something around:

Taylor Hall (50% retained, @$3m X1) for Wood + Ivan + pick

Murphy (1.5 years left @$4.4m) or Martinez (pending UFA at $4m) might be of interest too with retention.

The Hall trade is one you make only of Landeskog isn't coming back imo.

No, but maybe the Avs can finally beat them if they trade for someone on that roster. If nothing else, that player can't hurt the Avs anymore when they play Chicago.

Miller has full trade protection and reportedly will only waive for the Rangers, so if that's the case then NY knows they're in the driver's seat despite their own desperate situation.

I'm not a fan of Murphy at all, but if he can be had at half-salary you get him. He's a MASSIVE upgrade on the bottom pairing and quite possibly an upgrade on Manson as well.
