Not trying to be a wet blanket here but other than Perreault and Fortescue, aren’t these prospects that we’re all gushing about picks from the Moorehouse team, that have all left or been replaced by Drury?

The Rangers will need one of their under the radar prospects to make it. The Bruins find NHL players out of nowhere. Mason Lohrei went undrafted in his first season of eligibility. The Bruins took him in the 2nd round but other people were scratching their minds. Mason Lohrei? That guy will be playing in the league for a very long time. Laba. Lamb. If they make it to the NHL, we can call them Lava Lamp. Laba Lamb. Lava Lamp. Both of them are right-handed shooters which are hard to find.

Chemlar is a legit prospect too just not as flashy. Wha he does have going for him is he is a physical force. He projects as 3rd line power forward who legitimately punishes people and is a PIA to move.

No mention of Hugo Ollas in a while either who is probably the 2nd best goalie prospect behind Garand in the organization. He’s done nothing but play extremely well for Merrimack

Yea most of them won't make it but just 2 or 3 would change our outlook so much

Can someone tell me more about Laba and Lamb? How is their skating? Shots? Defense? Are they goal scorers or playmakers? Are they physical?
don't have much watching experience to comment

Laba is bigger and a natural C

their ##s are similar both 2 years ago, and this season;
as freshmen, Laba, being at a lower profile, many-fewer-drafted program, got lots more minutes and key minutes

If Laba can be our future fourth line center, that is a huge win.

Certainly a lot to be excited about with recent drafts. Cuylle, Sykora, Lamb, Laba, Berard, Perrault, Garand, Othmann
I am so stoked for the future of this team, a lot of skill and bite. It’s not just skill guys doing skilled stuff, they like to muck it up as well.

I know it’s echl but any idea how Boyko has been?

Does anyone else not get excited for picks after the first round unless they do crazy things like Buch did? I feel like the NHL draft is one round deep for most teams most years and round 2+ there's not a great chance of finding anything more than a 4th liner or bottom pairing D. Look at Zac Jones and how excited we were and now most of us think he's not an NHL level defenseman.

Depends on what you’re expecting.

I’m excited for someone like Chemlar knowing that it’s unlikely that he plays above the 4th line but see the profile of what he brings and know that he can be very good (and cheap!) in that role. Ditto Laba.

We haven’t smashed a pick used on a skater outside of the first round in forever though. Cuylle is good but he isn’t a home run.

i get excited for all the picks.
Many folks here put greater confidence in amateur scouting than i do

like this week with the Kjellberg retirement, posters were piling on mocking the Swedish picks
i have reasonable hopes for Larsson and Ollas, and even Lindbom (i don't deny he was drafted higher than needed)
even, to me, the book is not written re Henricksson (still only a year and a month into NA career)

Obviously the ~ top 50 standouts are more sure things
But after that, anything can happen, the guys are 18 or younger when being evaluated
to me the difference between 50th OA and 150th OA, and 100 vs 200, seems slimmer than many like to believe

Chmelar, Berard, Barbashev were all 5th's,
Fast, Edstrom and Barron 6th's
Hank was a 7th
Panarin, Girardi, Zucc not drafted at all

f*** the probabilities, the fun is watching them develop and imagining them making it

The NHL is not like the NFL draft where an entire draft might be contributors and you can get stars in later rounds. It feels like after the first round it's unlikely the players become anything or at least not anything to write home about.

True but you never know when you might get a Robertson (2nd), Kucherov (2nd), Point (3rd), Fox (3rd), Toews (4th).

The Rangers outside of goaltening haven't had someone on that level in the later rounds since I've started watching in 2000

Edit: I guess Buch was the closest. But he was too expensive and too Russian for Drury.

Yea but I keep hoping we pull something out of our ass. Or at least start having elite 3rd and 4th lines. Othmann and Perrault are exciting though. Hoping that's a 50 pt and 70 pt player respectively.

I know my expectations are out of whack but I'd be disappointed if Othmann is just a 50 point player and call me greedy but I'm hoping Perrault becomes our first drafted non-goalie superstar that I can remember. I guess JT Miller is one but he only became that with Vancouver.

I'm hoping Perrault is a superstar too. Like PPG+. Tempering my expectations for Othmann simply because I know it will be difficult to get him on PP1. Laf is next in line I guess.

But with how well guys like Laba, Lamb, Chemlar, Berard are doing along with Cuylle and the potential of Sykora and whoever we add this draft I want to see elite 3rd and 4th lines.

I'm looking at all of these names and what strikes me is that there are no centers.

BMB looks like he's taken a step back a bit. Does Soo suck this year or something? Over a PPG last year and now under a PPG in his D+2 season. Disappointing to see just stat watching.

The organizational needs are LHD>Center>RHD>RW>LW>Goalie in that order at the moment.

Othmann took a step back statistically last year when he got traded to Peterborough. Berard also took a step back statistically last year at Providence. Both are doing fine now in the AHL, so I'm not too worried about Barker.

Laba plays center but I agree, center is a hole

Maybe we don't cause we haven't done well drafting guys late. But then we overpay guys like Goodrow instead of finding them in the draft for free.

Cuylle is round 2. Pretty pumped for him.
