Only one assist for Knies officially, but a great screen on one of Wyatt Kaiser’s goals.

Cooley trying the Michigan and missing the net is something

The Americans look good but very disjointed at times.

This tournament is a must win for Hockey Canada imo.

Knies. Speed looks good, uses body well too shield the puck, good vision to move puck to team mates. Lost a couple of board battles. Strong in front of the net Just a couple of observations on plays… this is kind of focusing on individual plays a bit too much.

The goaltending in this tournament from the lesser countries seems pretty bad

The Slovakian guy gave up by the end

If Cooley wasn't so focused on himself knies might have had a goal .
Cooley needs to learn how to use his line mates.

guess any fantasies anyone might have had about this guy riding in at the deadline and being some kind of savior can be safely parked for now.
I myself never called him a savior but a big strong kid that goes to the net and has a good shot .
NHL players will be better than Cooley at finding him in the right position .
We may not get a better add at the deadline .
He's probably playing on the 3rd line for us.

Just a Finland fan's opinion after 2 games:
Hirvonen has been really good. Finland's best player.
Niemelä has been OK. Just expected way more. Kinda disappointed so far.
You are right on both players, but it’s also the middle of summer and players are “rusty” from not playing for a while. A small tournament is fun to watch, but the bigger picture of their regular seasons is far more important.

On Hirvonen, I’d love to see him really up the offence this year, and develop that side to him, before he comes over next year. It would be great to see him grow that confidence in himself.

Are they both staying in Finland for the season?

Hirvonen has made some really nice offensive plays.

For sure, but this is junior hockey, and my suggestion is that his growth hopefully comes in Liiga play over his results last year. The comp level from the teams he’s faced so far in this tournament, to the NHL is a big difference.

Absolutely. Then probably the Marlies the year after, and maybe the Leafs the year after that. There is nothing wrong with slowly developing players.

Yes. But he's made offensive plays that I'm not used to seeing from him. Better patience and better timing on his offensive decisions. Have a feeling that he's going to score a lot next season in Liiga.
