Game? Oh, right. That. There’s a game tonight
Who we seeing in net tonight? Bound to be more quality shots against than Germany took.
Game? Oh, right. That. There’s a game tonight
I mean, it would be full of Canadians for the Canada games, but the US games would also be packed, the team always has Minnesotans on it and we love to support our own. Current capacity record at the Excel is from a high school game, no other team can make that claim. The WJC is not a zero-interest sporting event here, top Gophers get picked every year and there is a ton of awareness around it during the winters. I have friends that have never even played competitively that mention highlights during the December tourneys.MN has not made a recent bid, afaik. ND Fargo, yes. The USA home rink in Fargo was full of Canadians, similar to tournaments held in Buffalo.
A WJC hosted in the Twin Cities would again feature a rink full of Canadians from Winnipeg and elsewhere in Canada. MN hockey fervor would not be an attendance factor.
As much as we'd like to think otherwise, the WJC is a zero-interest sporting event in the USA.
Can you distill the point you're trying to make @Steve Kournianos ?
We all know that the IIHF, Hockey Canada, and TSN stand to financially benefit most from WJC tournaments hosted in Canada and American border cities, and revenues from tournaments held in Europe are inevitably inferior.
So what? The organizing bodies and lead broadcaster will chase the dollars. This is self-evident.
I don’t even understand what you’re going on about with American vs Canadian bids? For the WJC? How many US cities have even made bids? (Not sure what the NHL draft has to do with this.)
These might be better left as rhetorical questions at this point, I just don’t understand what you’re getting at.
Certainly bids for things like World Cup and the Olympics involve the government officials in the US.
You just seem to have a bug up your ass about Canada. I don’t get it but I have nothing left to say about it.
Canada has had unfavourable game scheduling before as well. The schedule always favors Canada when they host.
Team USA’s game with Sweden that should determine the top seed is a back-to-back of a 3-in-4 nights.
Canada’s key game with Finland is off a rest day.
Canada plays every game at 6pm local and can bed down no later than 10 pm . Team USA gets either a 2pm start (players hate early games) or 8pm, which means they won’t get to rest until 12am.
Players and coaches care about the schedule and start times. Yet when Canada hosts, it never has a 1pm game or a tough group schedule early on because TSN wants to max out ratings and ensure Canada gets to the Medal Round. That’s why the USA-Canada game (or Canada’s toughest group opponent) is always on 12/31. The Euro countries get screwed this way, because TSN making sure Canada’s easy first 2-3 games means one of Finland, Sweden, Russia, Czechs have to play a tougher opponent in Game 1 or 2 — all because Canada’s greedy.
I mean, I thought this tournament was about the kids? Well, at least it used to be until Hockey Canada and TSN got greedy.
My solution is simple:
One year in Canada, next year in Europe, following year in the U.S., then back to Canada. Schedule requires top group seeds (from previous WJC) to play at least one traditional hockey power within first two games; same with low seed vs low seed.
It will add balance and fairness, which is something Hockey Canada (and TSN) clearly has a big problem with.
My original post clearly indicated the annual unfairness of the schedule in relation to Team USA, and Canadian posters (as usual) got really defensive and used the tired, knee-jerk “but the WJC makes Canada money” retort.
Money explains the schedule and favoritism towards Canada, but it doesn’t excuse it.
Whatever, I guess. However, it is comforting knowing corrupt-ass Hockey Canada are losing millions and won’t turn a profit.
Not very often that the USA fields a better roster than Canada's at the U20. That of course doesn't mean it can't win.Not very often what?
What the hell are you even talking about? Not very often that the USA fields a better roster than Canada's at the U20. That of course doesn't mean it can't win.
A better roster on paper?
Great.
How many times has the US had a better roster on paper only to shit the bed last 15 years?
We have as many Gold medals as Canada does past 10 years. We do make mistakes but I would say we are clearly neck and neck with them year in and year out for this tourney.
I made a simple reply to a statement that you had made earlier. I'm going to take the high road here and leave you to your "American Dream"What the hell are you even talking about?
Take your inferiority complex back to your own thread. We had enough idiocy in here the past 2 days.
Nobody even said US had a better roster than Canada for God's sake.I made a simple reply to a statement that you had made earlier. I'm going to take the high road here and leave you to your "American Dream"
Haven't been to Chicago in years so won't be taking 294 N anytime soon. I understand now what you are saying although to me your original statement wasn't all that clear. My reply was't meant as a challenge nor was it my intent to antagonize. So for that I apologize and hope that it is water under the Chicago River bridge. Bottom line is we all need to stick together, the world is already pretty f***ed up.Nobody even said US had a better roster than Canada for God's sake.
How many times did the US have a better roster on paper than its results..that comment was clearly and specifically about team USA.
Year in and year out we have been neck and neck with Canada which is a fact.
Please take 294N back to "canuck2010" land..
And he is benched...Players make mistakes...doesn't mean they should be benched for them.
Great way to get your team playing tight..."Screw up, you're sitting."
Bordeleau needs to start being selfish and take over. I know he loves to dish but kid needs to start ripping more shots on net. He has had some good looks that he seems to not want to take first 2 games..
I wouldn't have any issues with that at all. I actually want to see Pastujov bump up to 3rd line and bump Samoskevich up to Bordeleau. They need to add a shooter to his line. I'd switch Mazur for Coronato or Samoskevich.
