That period was so lopsided it's hard to get much of a read on the team. But I do like that they've come out so strong when we don't always do so to start the tournament.

It's amazing what an extra 8 months can do. Hughes looked so tentative in the original 2022 WJC and now he's commanding the game. That pairing with Faber is elite. As a Kings fan I still can't believe they traded Faber. They'll regret it.

Peart's turnover was one of the worst I can remember but the positive was it forced Mbereko to make a save. I think the other 3 shots against him were basically just dump ins.

Don't get the Peart hate, one really bad change mixup, the turnover on the PP was not good but quickly recovered and he was one of like 6 guys that cost us PP time already. Call it karma for the ludicrous keep in that he pulled off in the first, throw in the assist where he opened up the O zone entry and its not exactly awful play outside of two puck slip ups in game one of a summer hockey tournament. Benching him in the first period is hilariously out of touch.

Not sure we are watching same game. If he looks like this vs Germany, I am sooooo excited for him vs Canada/Sweden/Finland..

There is also no hate...you make a horrific mistake like he did your ass gets benched at any level. My 9 year old hasn't seen ice in 3 months with a less horrific turnover than Peart...

Yeah not a fan of a 5 minute major there on that hit to James. IIHF is so blah

And Cooley makes it 2-0!!
Crap calls like that happen every world junior and I have to always remind myself that the IIHF is super soft and to get used to it for a week.

Obviously wasn't the right decision but it was a miscommunication between him and Hughes and the indecision made him make the worst decision. We might be watching a different game because I can't imagine a world where you bench a 9 year old for 3 months because of a bad line change.

Kaiser just got completely walked there and it actually led to a goal against, should we be benching him too?

Can't really put too much into a game like that. They won as you'd expect and it's on to the next one.

Team could have had 10+ with any finish tonight. As the timing and chemistry builds I imagine it'll be fine.

Loved the way they came out of the gates. Hated the way they took their foot off the gas in the 2nd and onward.

Really liked Hughes, Slaggert, and Faber.

It'll be interesting to see if Behrens gets in for Peart next game. Peart is a good player so it's important not to overreact to two bad passes/turnovers.

I imagine we see Koepple next game too. Mbereko barely saw the puck. He made a nice save on the Peart turnover, but the PP goal against was the only other real chance he saw and it was weak. Rotate until a guy forces you to keep him in the net.

Onward!
