So happy we have some hockey at this time of the year but going to be weird watching it in August. WJC and the holiday season is magical in Canada. Nothing like waking up early for Boxing Day shopping and grabbing a Tim Hortons then going home to watch game one of the WJC.

That sounds very Canadian reading it back lol.

I mean, the WJC is happening again in December anyway, exactly a week after the soccer World Cup ends which is really wonky to be watching in the winter.

Shit ton of sports to follow the second half of this year to be sure.

August is fine. I hope everything goes really well.

As soon as I finished writing that I happened to go to to tsn's web page and the first thing my eyes see as one of the headlines is......."expectations sky high for Bedard at WJC"

Lol, perhaps there will be more pressure to lead then I thought. Cripes tsn, he's still a pup waiting to be drafted, settle down.
He’s kind’ve in a tricky situation for pressure /expectations. People will forget this is actually his true 16 year old tourney since it seems like he is a returnee and his 4 goal game being the last action we saw of TC on the winter will add to it - at least to the gen pop

Yup.

With Canada's schedule, Bedard will rack up the points during the Round Robin. Expect 3(+) points for each of the first 3 games. When the games get tougher, against Finland on "New Years Eve", in the semis and in the GMG, he'll drop off - like 16 years old's always do.

With Canada's schedule, Bedard will be able to rack up the points during the Round Robin. Expect 3+ points for each of the first 3 games. When the games get tougher, against Finland on New Years Eve ;), in the semis and in the GMG, he'll drop off - like 16 years old's always do.
Dropoff would be expected, wouldn't be surprised he could still poke in a big goal though, he's opportunistic as all get go, smart and only needs a second to let go that hard, very accurate shot.

Very dangerous skill set, even for a young kid.

Of course. I just meant : Posters should not expect 3(+) points per game when the games get tough.

They would be stupid to expect that.
With all the hype, there will be posters/viewers who expect the moon - and they will get it early when Canada (hopefully) steam rolls over Latvia, Slovakia and Czechia. Bedard will come down to earth, like all 16 year old's do at the WJR's, when the tough games start - then we will get the inevitable "he's not that great" comments.

None of it matters, of course. Just internet B.S.

All these other teams should just stay home.

Another gold for Canada coming up. Imagine facing a team with McTavish, Kent Johnson and Bedard and thinking you're going to win.

FOOLS. FOOLS I TELL YA.

Masters says that Garand and Cossa are splitting the exhibition game. Kidney and Del Mastro are sitting with Brochu, so nothing overly surprising.

I mean the 2021 team was way better than both renditions of this 2022 team and they lost badly in that depressing gold medal game. I hope you're right this time around.

If his past international appearances are any indication he will have pedestrian stats in the round robin, sending HF into a frenzy saying he isn’t a lock for #1 overall, then he will absolutely light up the knockout stages

After spending a few years in the arenas and talking to a lot of agents, parents of high end players and the kids themselves, one thing they all echo is how damaging the early hype heaped on them by the social media Twitter scouts. Creates expectations they feel are unrealistic to meet and it weighs on them mentally, big time. I totally get fan excitement about young prospects, but some of these younger people trying to break into the Twitter scouting sphere need to understand they sometimes do more harm than good. Just look if someone has an opinion about a kid like Shane wright back in April that deviates from the consensus group think opinion, they’re relentlessly attacked. Yet those people attacking likely haven’t seen the player a lot or are going off hearsay to form their own opinions. It needs to stop asap as I fear what it is doing to these young players and their families psyche. On here is a bit different, it’s a much more niche forum compared to say Twitter, where opinions are broadcasted to so many. Talking to Wright and his family over the years, it was one thing they reiterated a lot to me. How Shane felt the weight of the world on his shoulders from the amount of social media hype he had received since entering the OHL. It took a toll on him.

Could be a mistake. Cossa may have the highest upside but right now I think Garand and Brochu are better. Cossa has always been poor at international level and he played a poor season at club level as well. Garand and Brochu I'm no fan of and I wouldn't count them towards the tournaments top goaltenders but they're more proven, more consistent and therefore far more likely to hold things together...which is probably all this team is gonna need.
Del Mastro adds much needed grit to the team. I'd play him.

No he was decent to good. People expected a little more given his draft status and the powerhouse team in front of him. In no way was he 'poor' though.
At the end of the day it wasn't good enough. He's very inconsistent and given how he faltered in international games at this point it wouldn't be smart for Canada to play Cossa in games they could realistically lose.

If I was a coach I'd shit my pants and get grey hair with Cossa in net. I can tell you that. The upside is clearly there but this is very much a longterm project.
