Yeah, I checked TSN as well, doesn't appear as though it will be on.I cant believe the game tonight isnt on tv unless I'm missing something. TSN always shows the pretourney games

Any Collin Shirley types on this team? You need that in every team. That xtra grit.
We'll see who's right after the tournament. If his past international appearances are any indication he will have pedestrian stats in the round robin, sending HF into a frenzy saying he isn’t a lock for #1 overall, then he will absolutely light up the knockout stages
Well said. After spending a few years in the arenas and talking to a lot of agents, parents of high end players and the kids themselves, one thing they all echo is how damaging the early hype heaped on them by the social media Twitter scouts. Creates expectations they feel are unrealistic to meet and it weighs on them mentally, big time. I totally get fan excitement about young prospects, but some of these younger people trying to break into the Twitter scouting sphere need to understand they sometimes do more harm than good. Just look if someone has an opinion about a kid like Shane wright back in April that deviates from the consensus group think opinion, they’re relentlessly attacked. Yet those people attacking likely haven’t seen the player a lot or are going off hearsay to form their own opinions. It needs to stop asap as I fear what it is doing to these young players and their families psyche. On here is a bit different, it’s a much more niche forum compared to say Twitter, where opinions are broadcasted to so many. Talking to Wright and his family over the years, it was one thing they reiterated a lot to me. How Shane felt the weight of the world on his shoulders from the amount of social media hype he had received since entering the OHL. It took a toll on him.
What international games did he falter in?At the end of the day it wasn't good enough. He's very inconsistent and given how he faltered in international games at this point it wouldn't be smart for Canada to play Cossa in games they could realistically lose.
If I was a coach I'd shit my pants and get grey hair with Cossa in net. I can tell you that. The upside is clearly there but this is very much a longterm project.
TSN is acting so weird regarding this tournament right now. They are broadcasting it as per their agreement, but they are definitely holding Hockey Canada at arms length at the moment. Any other year they would’ve 100% televised the pre-tourney game and have had the hype machine on full blast!Yeah, I checked TSN as well, doesn't appear as though it will be on.
That’s what I want to know. Cossa’s international resume consists entirely of two games at the U17. Great sample size there. What international games did he falter in?
Agreed, to me it’s disgraceful how tsn and a lot of the media have handled this. They truly have bought into the idea they are somehow guilty he association for embracing this tournament, as if the current group of kids are somehow one and the same. I just despise this self hating mindset that’s pervading everything we do, and where does it end? Will it continue with the Christmas WJC? I’d say it’s likely. They succumb to the pressure from the vocal mob that if they show too much excitement for this tournament they somehow support the status quo. It’s all about soothing the ego’s of a few who will never be satisfied, doesn’t matter that happens they’ll find ways to spin it around. Either cover it thoroughly or don’t at all. What happens if come early December we find out there was an incident with say, the 2005 WJC team and then it’s just this all over again. Hold those who are guilty to account and move forward. Pretending as if you’re just covering this tournament out of obligation and feeling guilty doing so doesn’t benefit anyone but fragile people and ego’s. Unless you’re looking for info on this WJC, you’d almost be under the impression it wasn’t even going on. I get it’s the summer, but still. As of right now it looks like TSN is a f***ing joke. Embarrassing. TSN's scheduled programming for tonight includes: two channels showing soccer games from four years ago, one station chronicling the debate surrounding the Lou Marsh award from 1997, a baseball clash between Canada's favourite teams the Mets and Reds, and riveting sports material like dodgeball, cornhole, and celebrity cornhole. As opposed to Canada's sole WJC pre-tournament game against Sweden.
TSN is showing the tournament. Might as well do a decent job of it.
I believe that Shirley himself opted out. Colorado and Tampa Bay are in a bidding war for his services and he already has his WJC gold medals.

They aren't even promoting in private, they always remind me in my email that the WJC is coming up and it's time to get my subscription for the month to watch it..........................not this time.TSN is acting so weird regarding this tournament right now. I still think we’ll find a stream on Hockey Canada’s website around game time.
Finland has pretty much their A team here. I'm trying to think of a single player they are missing and I'm drawing a blank.
Could be a mistake. Cossa may have the highest upside but right now I think Garand and Brochu are better. Cossa has always been poor at international level and he played a poor season at club level as well. Garand and Brochu I'm no fan of and I wouldn't count them towards the tournaments top goaltenders but they're more proven, more consistent and therefore far more likely to hold things together...which is probably all this team is gonna need.
Del Mastro adds much needed grit to the team. I'd play him.
Did you watch the december tournament and the pre tournament games? Based on your comment you probably didn't or you've got an incredibly short memoryNot only did Finland not lose anyone of note they gained Raty whoI think had Covid and was going to miss the winter tournament had it played to completion
Agreed. Cossa's 2.28 GAA and .913 sV% and playoff 1.93 GAA and .919 sv% were far too underwhelming. They should be relying on Brochu's 2.75 GAA, and .911 sv% and playoff 3.24 GAA and .893 sv% instead. Mostly because he's never played for Canada and Cossa had 2 bad games for Canada White 4 years ago
He was poor back then and does the december tournament ring a bell? Could there be a reason why he ended up being 3rd goalie? Even a very good reason potentially? Something like humiliation or complete letdown? Whatever you wanna call it. Possible? It was just half a game but man it was brutal. That’s what I want to know. Cossa’s international resume consists entirely of two games at the U17. Great sample size there.![]()
So two U17 games and a team Canada camp against two other great goalies? Okay then.Did you watch the december tournament and the pre tournament games? Based on your comment you probably didn't or you've got an incredibly short memory

He got humiliated and based on that lost his spot. Also played a very inconsistent season at club level. At this point, Jan Bednar is the far better Detroit drafted goalie in this tournament.Oh yes the huge sample of 11 shots in a pre tournament game against Russia should end Cossa's career TBH. Especially since Brochu managed and exceptional .909 sv% against the powerhouse that is Austria.
1 half a game sample of bad = important
1 game sample of bad = meaningless
1 season of average and a good more recent playoffs = bad or not relevant
1 season of average and a terrible more recent playoffs = good or not enough of a sample size
Got it. Sorry for the confusion, you are correct

The rest is what you said, not me. All I said is that as a coach, I'd shit my pants playing Cossa in meaningful games today. Brochu and Garand today are much better but still nowhere near Bednar or the two Swedish SHL goalies. Those are by far the best goalies in this tournament. Then there's Bednar, then a bigger group with Latkoczy, Wraneschitz, Patenaude, Garand and Brochu. Cossa has bigger upside but today is at least a tier behind those guys and starting him would make me nervous as f***. You have zero clue what the heck you're gonna get.

TSN knows the blow back will be huge if they promote the tournament - I am sure the word came from on high (BCE) to fly under the radar with the August tournament.TSN is acting so weird regarding this tournament right now. You said Cossa had a poor season and Brochu is a more proven more consistent goalie.
Considering their seasons were kind of similar with Cossa being marginal better and having a way better playoffs(the most recent games either has played) I don't see how your statement about Cossa's season being poor and Brochu being more proven and consistent is even remotely accurate.
While you were correct that Cossa had a bad showing in half a pre-tournament game it was against Russia and it's half a game sample size and you completely ignored Brochu's bad game against lowly Austria.
I'm not exactly comfortable with Cossa either and Garand has been better and earned the right to be the starter, nothing statistically about Brochu would suggest he's a better option than Cossa to be the backup but you ignored all the Brochu data points, pointed out extremely small sample from Cossa, said he had a poor season when it was average and slightly better than Brochu and tried to say Brochu was more proven and consistent which is clearly wrong and I don't know why.
No luck finding anything yet, hoping it will come up as a "bonus" feed come game timeAny links through Hockey Canada site, etc. that anybody knows of that are going to be showing the pre-tourney game tonight?
Thanks in advance.
