It does matter. The 02's have to be the backbones of their teams because it's their last tournament, their last chance. If an 02 born player isn't good enough to lead the way you might as well select a younger guy instead. Somebody eligible to return.
I think there is pressure on him to perform so as to keep the steam running for his first overall status and heavy rep as a future superstar but he won't be asked to lead the team or anything.Bedard is the biggest name in this tournament, by far. You bet there's pressure on him.
And he'll handle it just fine.
TSN has made the WJC an enormous television spectacle in Canada, much to their credit. Apart from the diehards in this forum, I don't think the average hockey fan outside of Canada is aware of that, or of the WJC in general. As soon as I finished writing that I happened to go to to tsn's web page and the first thing my eyes see as one of the headlines is......."expectations sky high for Bedard at WJC"
Lol, perhaps there will be more pressure to lead then I thought. Cripes tsn, he's still a pup waiting to be drafted, settle down.
Well, the WJC has caught on in other places, not to the extent that it has in Canada but it's pretty popular and well known In places like Finland and Sweden now, especially Finland.TSN has made the WJC an enormous television spectacle in Canada, much to their credit. Not that I'll be shedding any tears on behalf of TC, but the pressure on all their players is huge, especially so for a marquee name like Bedard.
True. My USA bias is showing.Well, the WJC has caught on in other places, not to the extent that it has in Canada but it's pretty popular and well known In places like Finland and Sweden now, especially Finland.
Yep, tons of pressure on our players, huge event here.
yeah, it's still a nothing event in the U.S, not sure that will ever change, there is just too much to compete with sports wise in the U.S market.True. My USA bias is showing.
I could ask 100 randos on the street about the WJC and would almost certainly get 100 quizzical looks.
Even among avid hockey fans down here it's a nothing burger. Zero promotion and the NHL Network doesn't capture many eyeballs at the best of times.yeah, it's still a nothing event in the U.S, not sure that will ever change, there is just too much to compete with sports wise in the U.S market.
That's for sure, it's an intense 2 weeks and done tournament that tends to produce really good games and quite a few of the classic variety.Even among avid hockey fans down here it's a nothing burger. Zero promotion and the NHL Network doesn't capture many eyeballs at the best of times.
It's a shame, because as all of us know, this tournament consistently produces some of the most compelling hockey to be seen.
This is a B team and will most likely not medal
I think of this as experience for December
I think Finland has to be at least co faves with them, I even like their team slightly more on paper. Not to sound disrespectful but that's fairly ridiculous - particularly with the absence of Russia.
Both Canada and USA appear to be favorites, even with the absence of top tier players.
All the teams have the B teams , so yeah we do have a chanceThis is a B team and will most likely not medal

Finland has pretty much their A team here. I'm trying to think of a single player they are missing and I'm drawing a blank. Is Logan Mailloux even came close to make the Team ??

How tone deaf would Hockey Canada need to be to invite Mailloux with everything going on?Is Logan Mailloux even came close to make the Team ??

I haven't found anything yet.Is there a stream for todays pre tournament game?

That's fair. The players get to keep those stats. They don’t just get lumped in with these ones though. They go down in the stat book like they were separate tournaments.
Canada yes, USA no. Skating groups are probably pretty close, but the difference in net is staggering. Not to sound disrespectful but that's fairly ridiculous - particularly with the absence of Russia.

Expecting Stankoven to lead the team in points tbh
