Big pressure on Bedard to carry the team. Time to start his draft year with a bang.

Don't think he has any pressure at this WJC. Maybe the team 2023 team in December but certainly not this one.

Solid post.

Also, no reason to think he won't rise to the occasion for Team Canada this go around, either.

Kid has always shone with the maple leaf on his chest in past competitions.

Yeah I'd say that the pressure to deliver is primarily on Johnson and McTavish. Age, draft pedigree, and experience. Again credit to both of them for showing up because few would have blamed them for sitting out and preparing for the NHL season. I doubt that it will be as much pressure for players as a typical winter WJC tournament. Bedard will likely have a lot of the pressure in 2023 though as a returning player and the biggest name likely to be on that team.

McTavish is actually underager. Eligible to return. You can't up the expectations for him based on age. If that's what you wanna do, you need to look at the 02 guys.

I know that McTavish is born in 2003 and eligible to return. I don't think that it makes a big difference to people whether the player is 18 or 19 after they have been drafted, or 19 and a half in McTavish's case due to the unique timing of this tournament. In the case of Bedard, it matters that he is only 17 when it comes to how much pressure it on him.

It does matter. The 02's have to be the backbones of their teams because it's their last tournament, their last chance. If an 02 born player isn't good enough to lead the way you might as well select a younger guy instead. Somebody eligible to return.

This is a B team and will most likely not medal

I think of this as experience for December

I don't know what you're talking about. The only big loss is Power. And Clarke but that's a different story. Guhle and Hunt got replaced by equal players. Then there's 7 forwards out from the initial team but three of them shouldn't have been on that team anyway and now got replaced by better players. Upfront Canada lost a bit of experience and Center depth but, with elite talents like Othmann and Foerster coming in, barely any quality.

Power is a big loss. No doubt. You can't replace Power. That doesn't make it a B team though.

Do the games and stats from the first couple games last December still count or is everything reset to zero's?

The players get to keep those stats. They don’t just get lumped in with these ones though. They go down in the stat book like they were separate tournaments.
