Seems like a D group with a nice blend of talents. Zellweger and Cormier(Thompson?) cHan be the offensive types, with the others being more two way types with size. Goalies look promising, too. I think the coaches will have to just go with the hot hand, and not worry about which G is supposed to be better. I think any of the 3 would work, though Coossa might have the job to lose?

How do you figure th,at? Garand is the CHL Goalie Of the Year, and had a brilliant year. It's his job to lose

Well, the main loss is probably Power. Too bad they didn't select Clarke who could have replaced him somewhat.

Offense lost a bit of punch and Center depth as well but it's not that bad actually. I'd have selected Othmann and Foerster over Guenther, Bourgault or Sourdif anyway.

Some huge losses at forward and D. I wonder if this tournament even goes ahead. Russia can't compete, all the best players are missing anyway. Talk about an asterick.

It is obviously worse having a lot of the best players and even one of the best teams not present, but there aren't asterisks or anything. The winning team is the winning team. That doesn't mean it's the best team, the best age group, or anything like that, but it is the winning team. It's going to be a weird tournament but it can still be watched and enjoyed.

First look at line combos:

I mean we're already missing Beniers and Sanderson, arguably 2 of the best 5 players available for this tournament.
Sanderson doesn’t belong in the top 5 of available players for this tournament. I don’t think he’d be top 5 of just those that aren’t playing. I’d put Stutzle, Raymond, Beniers, Power, Drysdale, and Jarvis all ahead of him. And there are other guys who have pro experience already that may be ahead of him at this stage too, like Sillinger and Perfetti.

I forgot all about Jarvis.

For me, NHL players are not really considered "available".

Interesting they have Hunt over ORourke or Lambos and they have Lambos on the right side. Lambos and ORourke are seen as having a bigger upside than Hunt.

I am not sure that the coaching staff are too concerned with upside in a tournament format that needs you to win now. Although yes both probably have better pro careers ahead of them.

Having said that I think Hunt probably pairs much better with Cormier that O'Rourke and Lambos do. Hunt will play a fluid low or no mistake game and will not take any chances. Just what Cormier needs so he can roam around and do his thing. O'Rourke and Lambos play a "jitterbug" style which Cameron probably does not trust as much. Probably just personal preference on his end at this point.

I think O'Rourke can and does play defensively sound hockey. Maybe you are thinking that he will be less likely to defer to Cormier in puck carrying situations than Hunt? Otherwise, ROR and Hunt seem somewhat similar.

Little bit of line shuffling today. Wouldn't mind seeing the Stankoven - McTavish - Bedard line reunited but understandable that they want to spread out the offence in the top 6.

You need a big guy on that second line if you're going to have Johnson and Stankoven on it. I like Foerster there.
