The missing goaltenders is the biggest loss for USA, which has absolutely tanked our chances IMO. I would have preferred us to lose another 5-6 starting skaters than our top keepers, because we've got plenty of depth there. But not in net - we've got 3 undrafted goalies on the roster as a result.
Really, you would rather have this roster..?

Pastujov - Hughes - Samoskevich
Howard - James - Nazar
Berard - Stramel - Snuggerud
Mazur - Janicke - Doan
Biondi

Behrens-Faber
Kaiser-Buium
Kleven-Ufko
Peart

Commesso
Silverstein

(no Bordeleau, Cooley, Knies, Coronato, L. Hughes, or Morrow)

Are any players missing the tournament injured to the point of missing NHL training camps? I know that Bourgault and Guenther have some sort of injuries, but I'm thinking not severe enough to totally prohibit them from the tournament.

Also, does anyone know if Lapierre is healthy?

I asked on our board if that was sorted out a bit at camp or not. No reply. Hmmm. And Commesso, for shame.

Sorry for thread-jacking leaf-bros.

Any reason Fantilli is playing on neither the Hlinka or the WJC team? I assume he'll play in the 2023 WJC, but it's odd he's not on the roster for the Hlinka.
I asked the same question. Fantilli is 17 yet, somehow, too old for the U18's.

really? Take a look at the BIRTH YEAR of the entire Hlinka roster. That will be your key clue. Now take a look at the BIRTH YEAR of Fantilli!

International tournaments are played by BIRTH YEAR. Adam played his U18 tournament for '04 born players this past April. He wasn't particularly all that great to be honest. Not that one tournament means all that much. His Hlinka tournament was last summer. sucks that Hockey Canada decided not to send a team...but that's it.

The summer Hlinka tournament is just a preview of the players who are (will be) eligible to play in the IIHF U18 tournament next April.

Here endeth the lesson.

And just a preview of my U20 roster for the 2023 tournament - Fantilli doesn't make my roster to open the season. roster coming in September.

I cannot believe TC did not pick the 20 years old Foudy over 18 years old Nathan Gaucher or 19 years old Zack Ostapchuk, OMG..... Please look at his AHL playoff record.

I mean we're already missing Beniers and Sanderson, arguably 2 of the best 5 players available for this tournament. I wouldn't field the roster you have here, but as a concept I think it's about a coin flip. The difference between Commesso and who we're left with is probably a full goal against per game. I'd bring in guys like Gauthier, McGroarty, and Howard up front, with Hutson / Casey + Chesley on the back end. That still leaves a very strong group of skaters, maybe they are a 0.5 goals per game worse as a group than the actual group we're going with.

Not that big of a deal really, given the circumstances. A couple of '03 born players can get in some reps for December camp invites and the Christmas tourney. I'm just thrilled that McTavish and Johnson decided to opt in.

It's surprising how many people do not understand eligibility for these tournaments. From casual discussion over the years I've gathered that most people think that WJC eligibility is tied to NH draft year, which doesn't make sense upon any actual consideration.

Looking at some of the depth forwards taken, it really looks like Cameron wants a physical style, which is not all that surprising. There are a lot of different ways you could go after the locks are in place but with the various players not participating or playing for different countries you could do worse than that roster. My main gripe is not having more 2023 eligible defencemen on the roster.

I'm pretty pleased with the roster overall. Would I prefer all players who are eligible to show up? Absolutely! But we don't live in that world.

6 '02 d-men surprised me as well.

I'll sit by the pool, grill some smashburgers, have a few pops and will enjoy some August hockey.

Yeah? Well I did some calculations of my own (see below) and, when the results were in, he qualified !!!

Unless I forgot to "carry the 6"... I always do that...

I am looking forward it, too. Hlinka, as the appetizer, and then the WJR's to finish August will be something special. And, in 4 months, we do it again. Nice!

Yeah it's fine. A young star of the future, two forwards who should be stars at this level, presumably some good goaltending, solid enough depth. It's good enough for me.

Doesn't look like anyone made the 2022 team from the red vs white games. Seems like Clarke never had a chance

Pretty cool that McTavish can return in December and wear the C for two World Juniors. Huge fan of him.
Low chance of him returning for 2023 tournament though
