Time to ramp this up again Optimistic roster.

I'm leaving off Q. Byfield (just because expecting all '02s to show up is a bit too optimistic even for me) and S. Jarvis who will probably take the entire summer to recover from a concussion. (and that's disappointing)

A large '03 contingent + an exceptional '05 and a pretty damn good '04.

We'll start eliminating names as the tournament approaches when I hear/read reports of what the players are saying, what their interest level is in a summer WJHC.

Jarvis in super optimistic

How would your roster look today?
any changes gonna be made?
- new players coming in,
same players not returning

I would add few personal favorites
that didn't make it last time.

Hockey Canada has invited back the whole team that was chosen for the original tournament. There could be 5-6 players that won't attend, so those payers will be replaced by selections from HC.

Can't see Sillinger joining the team when he's already an established NHL player.
Also no chance Drysdale comes.

LD Lukas Cormier scored a goal and an assist before the games got postponed, he still in?

He just finished his Q season with 41 goals and 61 assists, 102 points in 76 games, was +54 and had 74 penalty minutes
(13 pp goals, 3 sh goals, 9 gw goals)

Players playing in Memorial Cup and WJC will have less than six weeks in between. That’s a short off season…

Since Hockey Canada is pretty much going to stay with the December roster (as much as possible) how many players are we talking about here with the extra short summer sched, 3-5? I don't really see a short summer as much of an issue for 17-20 year old players.

One of the players I was unsure about them inviting back is Bourgault because he got injured and seemed to be dropped down the lineup a bit, but his strong play heading in the memorial cup must mean him and Bourque are locks.

Hearing Team Canada is looking closely at Clarke to join the team.

I am OK with the tournament having been delayed in this manner if it means we can correct some mistakes and add at least Johnston and Clarke to prominent roles on the team.
I wish we had some news on Power, and other guys that were there this past December, no idea if they are going to play or not.

Here was the team from the Winter.

I believe TC said they invited every one of these guys back, so if a guy isn't returning they declined the invite or are injured.
Greig was dealing with a nagging injury so it's up in the air if he'll attend, McTavish, Guhle, Guenther, Neighbours and Johnson have played a ton of hockey in recent months. McTavish in particular may be injured and may want to rest up for NHL training camp next year after he finishes the Memorial Cup tournament.

There is a lot of questions on this roster. We'll see how things play out but it should be fun nonetheless.

Yeah, I don't think we are going to be seeing a few of those guys.

Power, McTavish, Johnson possibly.
The timing of the tournament makes it very difficult for players who are a lock or a good shot to play in the NHL next season for a number of reasons. Losing a month of training and "peaking" for the beginning of August when NHL season starts in October. Hockey already is a long season especially in the NHL for a young body, starting two months early is really tough. Also, some injuries and the CHL season extending deep into June shortens the off season even more for many. NHL teams may prefer to have their players rehabbing/resting and working out in preparation for the season.

Power - Finished season in NHL. Doubt team lets him. Lock to play in NHL
Perfetti - Finished season in NHL and had injury, doubt team lets him. Lock to play in NHL
Mactavish - Has played a lot of hockey and would only have 4 weeks off. Good chance in NHL next year.
Johnson - Finished season in NHL. Likely in NHL. Has played a lot of hockey this past year
Guenther -Has a major injury keeping him from playing in playoffs & Mem Cup, likely not ready to play in Aug
Wright - 1st OV Montreal may not let him
Guhle - Playing in Mem Cup and huge minutes, has a chance to be in Montreal next year. They may want him to train and rest.
Neighbours - Playing in Mem Cup and huge minutes, has a chance to be in St Louis next year. They may want him to train and rest.

Yep, and it's really depressing, you take all those guys away and you have to wonder how strong a team this version of TC will be.

Yeah when it comes to the guys who are likely in the NHL next year I'd view their participation as a bonus rather than an expectation. If there is a hole where guys like Power, Johnson, McTavish were then you can plug in a few guys like Clarke, Johnston, Savoie who are credible players at this level and should be big parts in December.
