A tournament in the summer feels....wrong. The World Juniors are meant to be watched over the Christmas break, with family and friends, drinks in hand and good food. Personally, my enjoyment of the tournament is tied directly to that, and the memories I have of watching previous tournaments.

And by that I assume the coaching staff rather than the players? Because that team is about half NHL all-stars now

No, Scott Salmond. Spott even threw him under the bus on that grand scheme. The sun lamps were the genius of one Scott Salmond.

but having RNH and other players strut about the rink in a superman player of the game cape, well, that was all on the coaching staff and, well, Spott.

I knew what you were talking about but let's not forget that Spott was a terrible coach for that team. The players played under their abilities until being rightly smoked in the semi-finals. May he never return.

So, which players will be invited now that this will be played in august ? Same coaching staff?

I'm hoping some guys who weren't invited to the December camp get a look this time around. In particular, W. Johnston, Othmann, B. Clarke, Savoie brothers, Kerins, Ben King, Z Bolduc, etc. Development can occur rapidly at this level, and these guys had big seasons. I don't expect Hockey Canada to change up much though, they tend to stick to their guns to a fault most times. However, they may be forced to depending on the status of Power, K. Johnson, Perfetti, McTavish, etc.

Perfetti - Byfield - Jarvis
K. Johnson
- McTavish - Bedard
Neighbours - Sillinger - W. Johnston
Bourque - Wright - Guenther
Greig - Stankhoven

Power - Drysdale
Guhle - Zellweger
Sebrango - Cormier
Lambos - O'Rourke

Could be a dream team but I suspect the ones in BOLD will not be allowed to attend. Hope I am wrong.

Because of the IIHF rules or you suspect that their NHL teams will refuse to let them go?

I think Savoie and Fantilli both will be invited to camp after the years they both are having

Joshua Roy was one of the last cuts in December. I hope he makes it this time after a dominant year in the Q (scored a total of 59 goals and 142 pts in 77 games).

Even better if he can somehow make his way up to Wright's line. A glimpse of what could be a future duo on the habs.

Not sure how this summer thing will work. Seems like if a player thought they had a decent chance of making the NHL roster out of camp they'd skip this tournament rather than risking injury. (always feel bad for Kirby Dach). Participation of high end prospects may be sparse.

Yeah, I think we will not have much to look forward to in this tournament in that way.

most people seem to have their default setting as negative. another way of looking at it, what better way to prepare oneself for an NHL camp than to play in an elite level tournament with my peers as opposed to playing a few games of shinny over the course of the same week and a half with a scattering of pros. I know I would opt for the former and not the latter. But that's just me, I'm an optimist at heart. :) But we shall see who shows up in August. I know Bedard will be there. That's a good start.

With the tournament coming to Halifax in December, my interest in the summer tournament has picked up... as a tune up for December. I do expect that a fair number of the big boys won't show up for various countries, but that opens up spots for more 2023 eligible players. If the big boys do show up then that's fine as well.

Have you got your name in for tournament ticket packages? or are you just going to try and score a select Team Canada game or two?

I'm in the draw but won't know the results until August. We'll see after that. I'm curious to see what the Halifax secondary market is like this time around as well.

I'm not as hopeful unfortunately. I have to think Canada as usual will get affected by this more then any other country and after last sundays tough loss I could use a WJC pick me up victory.

Cheer up, sleepy jean! The Skodas are not all that important, fun tournament, but not all that important. On the + side of the ledger, PLD and Batherson look like they got some A team potential. and that's what this tournament is for. I started working on my 2023 roster this morning. But that's just making wild assumptions on certain teams not making the POs based on who my favorite players are between the ages of 22-and 26.

You're right, it's not all that important but I would rather win it then lose it.

And yes, Batherson, and Dubois acquitted themselves very well for a chance to be considered for the A team in the future, I thought Barzal did also once he got his best game going in the medal rounds, he might be able to snag a 13th forward spot depending what goes down with our centre depth in the next little while.

Time to ramp this up again Optimistic roster.

I'm leaving off Q. Byfield (just because expecting all '02s to show up is a bit too optimistic even for me) and S. Jarvis who will probably take the entire summer to recover from a concussion. (and that's disappointing)

A large '03 contingent + an exceptional '05 and a pretty damn good '04.

We'll start eliminating names as the tournament approaches when I hear/read reports of what the players are saying, what their interest level is in a summer WJHC.

Wonder if they have changed their mind on Clarke in the past few months?
