A few posters have presented hypothetical line combos moving forward that see Bedard moved into a slot with different line mates.
But I have absolutely no idea why anyone would want to move Bedard off the line with Cuylle and Desnoyers.

Those three were dynamite together — at even strength, Bedard netted 3, and Desnoyers assisted on all of them, Cuylle on 2 of the 3.

Basically, 2 members of the supposed 4th line and the supposed 13th forward combined for 9 points.

Why mess with something that was so effective?

I agree, I like him as a spark on that line. Realistically Bedard is an option for Perfetti's line, where something is needed, but having a scoring threat from the Desnoyers line could help things a lot.

Connor McDavid would really spark Edmonton’s fourth line if he was on it, but for some reason the Oilers choose not to do that. Bedard can carry a line himself it appears, but imagine what he could do if he was playing with a real passer like Perfetti.

Disappointment all around to be sure. I thought that this team was put together more solidly than last year although perhaps less talented. A team of all stars is not always the best team especially in a short series. I have no doubt we would have won this year.

I don't see how they could wipe away anything that happened in the games that were actually played. Even if they tried to we all know what happened and it isn't as if cheating was involved.

No one knows what would have happened in this tournament. I felt confident that Canada and Sweden were the class of the tournament and would have been at least a bit surprised if they didn't end up in the final. Overall the rosters collectively seemed a bit weak though. I would have liked to have seen how Canada defended against one of the strong teams.

It's funny, way back in the day Canada couldn't win this tournament to save its life...until we woke up and started sending all-star teams. elite level players win elite level tournaments. The trick, the hard part is finding the right all star elite level players who can play a defined role that on a club team generally goes to a lesser skilled player. That's identifying which players can do that successfully and coaching.

Last year's team was, overall imho a better team than this year's version. and in the WJHC there is no guarantee of anything. This team looked like they could have made it to the GMG, but I wouldn't have been surprised if we got bounced in the semis.

Yeah, it's a pretty stacked team. To make it even more stacked I'd probably drop Stankoven, as he is an '03, and insert instead Hendrix Lapierre to complete the new French Connection line with Bourque and Bourgault. which is what I wanted to see in the lead up to December camp. and drop Guenther to 13th. 14th. F.

If this team actually plays, they better let every other nation amalgamate their best players into one. That’s the only way anyone will pose even the slightest threat.

That looks like a good WJC team, not untouchable or anything. I'll be surprised if they do end up playing the tournament at a later date, and shocked if the players who are in the NHL or are NHL bound are there.

Don't NHL bound players in a normal year participate in the Summer Showcase? What exactly would be any different about this other then it being on a bigger scale? I am sure there would be a few that step out but nothing substantial.

If I recall correctly, guys who were the very top picks and are basically assured of NHL spots don't tend to go. A Lafreniere for example. I wouldn't expect Power to go, though he looks like a solid bet to play in the NHL before this season ends. If Wright goes first I wouldn't expect him, even if he could use the reps. I could see guys like Perfetti and McTavish, who look like strong bets to play in the NHL next year, opting out. The later in summer it happens, should it happen, the worse for attendance.

I find the concept of re-playing the tournament strange anyway. I can't even really explain it. If they get the same rosters or even stronger rosters then that seems good but it seems off in some way.

Sweden with Raymond can beat that and aren’t far off. Raymond, Eklund, Holtz, Edvinsson, Wallstedt, that is as much high end talent as Canada. USA can easially beat that Canada team too.

Finland and Russia have decent chances in single elimination games. I get that the post is sarcastic but many fans of other hockey nations get fed up with the weird superiority complex including me.

Impressive, indeed.

Depending on how much quarantining is required, players might see this as a "warm up" prior to NHL camps. Why not play?

My guess : The payer's stats from December will stand but the Win/Losses records from cancelled games will not.

It's a shame they didn't have a real bubble in December.

Between this group and the draft that coming in 2023, we should be looking at some really impressive players dominating the NHL for years to come.

It shows the "sky is falling" cries from the late teen drafts was highly overblown.

Give me a break, it shifts every year but Canada was already the strong favourites this year and would be adding Byfield, Jarvis, Sillinger, and Drysdale to the team in this hypothetical. Sweden would add Raymond. Finland would add…Raty? US would hopefully have Bordeleau. Russia would likely not add anyone.

It's not worth it, D. The team looks amazing - no matter what some posters inject. Best to ignore.

Canada was not the strong favorites. I think the Canadian roster this year was a bit weaker than usual despite likely having 3 first overall picks. I would easially take the field over Canada. There are at least 4 other very good teams. Don’t act like Canada blow everyone out of the water and that the tournament would be decided in advance. Recent results prove you wrong.

Every other country would give their eye-teeth to have what Canada has coming down the pike in terms of talent. Canadians need to enjoy it without worrying what others say.

I am off for a walk in the beautiful COLD. Looks like I will get a ton of "shoveling exercise" on Sunday/Monday. Nice!

Don't you know how it works? Canadian hockey teams are always meh...never anything that special. Until of course they get beat and then it becomes, OMG. We beat a dream Team Team Canada with 20 1st, rd. draft picks.

You just got to filter out the noise...like I do.
