Gaudreau would have been a great add but people are seriously overreacting. The Devils are still one of the youngest teams in the league with a really good young forward group and one of the best defensive prospect pools in the NHL. Even with Gaudreau they would have been hard pressed making the playoffs in a loaded Eastern Conference, just make some smart moves and continue to build.

They have Roslovic and Jenner at C. Also have Cole Sillinger they are really high on drafted last year coming soon. They've got some young prospects coming, but it's a work in progress and I still question the Laine fit.

We don’t need to trade a ton of assets for Tkachuk now. We aren’t winning the cup next season. Keep developing. The year after looks absurd. Isn’t Tkachuk UFA next year anyway? Gaudreau would have been a great add - his size isn’t relevant with his talent - but he didn’t want to come here. His flirting with the islanders and letting Columbus in late shows you that. And it’s obvious - we are his favorite team’s top rival. Would’ve loved to have him but it’s time to move on and stay the course. No Mike Milburying.

'Continue to build' would imply were still drafting

I think we should be making moves to be better now. They just dont have to be at Gaudreau-levels of salary and play.

We should not be content with missing next year by more than 10 points. If the boys arent playing important games come late March then it was a failed season
