This man left millions of dollars and a more competitive team horizon on table for Columbus, Ohio. I can't even begin to understand what Gaudreau's motivations were for this move. Astounding stuff.
I don’t buy the “boyhood hating devils” for not joining us. It’s a business and he has only so long to make the most he can. Heck he could’ve signed here for short term until the cap goes up and flyers had room for him that would’ve made more sense.

Shows that JG did not want to come here. The Devils and Flames were used to up the asking price.
But he took less then what was being offered. The jackets knew the minimum to get him was probably 9 so he squeezed a little more out of them?

Id disagree whole heartedly. If the Devils are looking forward to the 2023 draft then maybe we should look towards new management.

No Devils fan wants to be told 'yeah next year we may be bad again, but dont worry were growing!'. At some point it becomes a case of never wanting to take the next step for fear of mistakes, as everyone we have ages another year over each time the offseason comes around
The Colorado Avalanche went from being one of the worst teams in the league into a perennial playoff contender from one year to the next just off the backs of MacKinnon, Landeskog and Rantanen improvement. Players like Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Holtz, Mercer, etc... continuing to improve is what will determine if this team is ready to compete or not, not a singular UFA signing/trade.

As for never wanting to take the next step for fear of mistakes that has nothing to do with what I said. I said the Devils should just continue to build and make smart moves. A smart move could mean a big upgrade in free agency or trade or a smaller move, my point wasn't to not bring players in but not to act desperately and let the market come to you and only make a move if you think it's worth it.

Nah don’t worry we still remember you said debincat has peaked at age 24 and will decline. At least I apologized for being wrong on a player taking less money to play elsewhere lol. Who would’ve known.

It's just bizarre. He turned down more money from CGY, NJ, and NYI. There's clearly something about CBJ specifically that enticed him.

But whatever, there's nothing you can do now. Go get Nino.
Maybe his wife got a job. Or an uncle lives in Ohio. Or he really, really likes Jeni's ice cream. Or he's a fan of the Columbus Crew. Or he wants to finish his degree at Ohio State. Who knows?

*shrugs* After losing Panarin, Columbus deserved a little happiness. It would have been nice to be the the beneficiary of a reverse-Parise, but what can you do.

I was never sure Gaudreau was a good idea anyway. I wish we'd been in on Marchment, but Niederreiter would be a good add. Let's get him.

Laine isn’t going anywhere. Also if they wanted to move assets out they should have done it for Fiala or Debrincat who are better players. Laine is too much of a passenger and won’t be worth the deal he gets.

It'll be interesting to hear the pressers from Jarmo, Johnny and Fitzy. Very curious.
