NHL Entry Draft 2022 NHL Draft Thread - Part 2

The only thing that would make Gauthier more a Sens selection than he already is, is if he was going to North Dakota.

In most of the mock drafts I'm seeing now, people have Gauthier going at #6 to Columbus.

He'd be a great pick for the Sens, but he's a prototypical riser. Big, fast, great shot - and I bet some teams project him as a C.

Honestly wouldn't be suprised to see him go at #4 to Seattle or #5 to Philadelphia.

Of course we'll make the same mistake as last year. Savoie is the obvious pick if he's still available

yep, big amercian and his dad played and he likes hitting. Never was outstanding offensively. Checks all the boxes except for the ND one.

19 goals in 22 games for USNDT this year. That's outstanding offensively. The guy can score. I expect him off the board before #7.

Chris Peters just mocked him to Philadelphia at #5. 2022 NHL Mock Draft: Shane Wright goes No. 1 in post-Lottery edition - Daily Faceoff

I think we get Gauthier, Kemell or one of the two RD d-men with the 7th pick.

I wouldn't be so eager to trade that away. They are all nice options.

I think I prefer Snuggerud over Gauthier, but I don't know if the Sens would agree. He's a gem.

Really smart forward with a fantastic stick and great anticipation. Steals a lot of pucks. Above-average defensively with good hands, vision and his shot is a weapon. Accuracy needs work but it's capable of beating a goalie clean.

Reminds me a fair bit of Norris actually. Not flashy but the smarts and skillset is there to be developed into a top 6 forward, whether it's at C or RW.

Haven't kept up on prospects this year but Dumais has to be intriguing, no?

From reading feedback here his skating seems to be very suspect which is an immediate red flag but the numbers are eye popping. We seem to have enough tweener or 4th line prospects so when is the right time to take a chance on a guy like him that may well be the guy that still finds the scoresheet at the NHL level?

Early 2nd round pick or Tampa's pick?

We have 2 seconds, 2 thirds and 3 fifth round picks. Do we bundle a 5th and 3rd to move up? We could really do with another nice win and there would be no pressure for him to develop quickly.

Using an early 2nd on Dumais would be terrible in my uneducated opinion. A slight, 5'8 forward with average at best skating is going to have huge problems with NHL speed and size. I see him play a ton seeing he's in the Maritimes, he's the smartest player in the division quite easily along with Kidney.

Tampa's pick you could take a peak at him, but even then there are lots of guys who project to be NHL players. None will be as smart or as skilled as Dumais, but they will have the better NHL transferrable tools.

Being small isn't the death knell it used to be. If you're small and not a + skater, that's extremely hard to overcome at the next level.

Really hope we can somehow trade up to get one of the RHD or they fall into our lap. Wishful thinking though.

Savoie's stats are eye popping, but he's quite the little dude. Is he feisty?

I've seen some highlights and in depth analyses: he's feisty in the way that Travis Konecny is. I think he has a pretty decent 2 way game. Whether his body will be up for the challenge, I'm not sure. He seems built pretty solid from the waist down.

So it really comes down to a game of chicken then. I am not advocating going for him as a huge reach but you think he will be there in the 3rd?

It's admittedly just an impulsive thought and we have generally done well with 2nd rounders the last little while but it is sort of a glut of 3rd/4th line guys in Belleville that has me thinking we take a swing and hope it works out.

I get the speed thing is a killer and you can only do so much at his stage of development. I think I am only seeing the upside and if a 3rd rounder crashes and burns it's better than a 1st rounder do that ;)

If we get one of the following players at number 7 pick, I think we will be happy:

1. Wright
2. Slafkovsky
3. Cooley
4. Nemec
5. Jiricek
6. Gauthier
7. Kemell

However if we do a deep reach again like last season, the risk goes up.

Going by that list all the guys I want would be gone, really hoping someone ahead of us goes off that list & picks one of the little guys. But if they are all gone I would be okay with taking Geekie even if he becomes a 3rd line centre Ottawa could use his skill set & strength down the middle is important to a winning team.
we badly need playmakers as well.

Among forwards only Batherson and Stutzle are consistent in creating for others.
Tkachuk & C. Brown are pretty good playmakers as well, not as good as those two but both also create plays every game.

I think there will be a wide disparity in the team lists this year ,, past maybe the top 6. So 7 to late teens even 20 may have some big differences between teams.

Just looking at the Sportsnet Mock of the top 16.. We could see players late on that list go a lot earlier and vice versa

Athletic has us taking Kemell over Gauthier (wings) Lekkerimaki (Sabres), Kasper (Ducks)
All 3 have Savoie 6 and the 2 D in the top 5.

I realize these are not NHL team lists but still show significant differences in this case past the 6th pick.

Kemell or Lekkerimaki would be just fine with me .. Hopefully the Sens go for the offensive upside pick if one of the top 2 RD don't slip.
