THose Hutson highlights are impressive. He looks fantastic but... for every Makar there are ten other smaller d-men who can dangle at the lower levels but go nowhere in the NHL. It's so hard to know who will shine at the highest level and who will flounder.

I think he will be a good to very good player. You can find question marks all over the first round in this draft. I am not trying to say the Sens should take him.. just that I think he will end up being a good player. He just has too many tools not to be. Logan Brown vibes... I am not getting.
In terms of effort and hunger. Good player probably top 5 in terms of talent but the organization places soon much emphasis on locker room harmony and character and Lambert is the antithesis of sens ethos.

That said If we had another 1st and Lambert slipped then hell yeah I'd say go for him.

Lambert slipping is him being there for our 2nd. He's probably closing in on a 2nd round guy as is.

I honestly hope Ottawa goes after Lane Hutson.

In my opinion, he is the most talented player in the draft. He reminds me so much of Cale Makar.
Idk, he looks tiny... Tough to draft a kid on D that small early in the draft.

He can't be more than 5'8, 160 judging off that clip.

That’s why you’ll find him ranked in the second round from most people.

Here is a scouting report I wrote about him a few months back.

Lane Hutson - Usually with small players, the first thing you notice about them is their size. Not Hutson, the first thing you notice is how dynamic a player he is. He has the ability to stop on a dime, quickly pivot and start back up getting to up speed fast. Very good at finding holes while in transition and is not afraid to carry the puck up the ice. He is a bit unorthodox when defending, at times it looks like he’s panicking but more often than not gets the job done. I believe that Hutson is the most talented player in this draft.

He is tiny but doesn’t play like it. Don’t think Ottawa should target him with #7, but I’d be ecstatic if they picked him up with one of their early seconds or even moved up to the late first to snag him. He’s worth the risk. HIGH reward with this player.

I think I prefer Snuggerud over Gauthier, but I don't know if the Sens would agree. He's a gem.

Really smart forward with a fantastic stick and great anticipation. Steals a lot of pucks. Above-average defensively with good hands, vision and his shot is a weapon. Accuracy needs work but it's capable of beating a goalie clean.

Reminds me a fair bit of Norris actually. Not flashy but the smarts and skillset is there to be developed into a top 6 forward, whether it's at C or RW.
I’m fine with either. Howard really impressed me at the U18s but 7 is a likely a little high but not by much.

While I can see the potential for payoff, I don't see us doing it tbh. I don't think we've drafted a Dman under 6' since Wideman 13 years ago.

Why would Arz trade their best young player in Keller? That makes no sense especially given they have three 1st rd picks this yr. The only real question for them is if they can put together a team of good young players as Ottawa has while he is still young & good & of course that's possible. If they can't they could always trade him later to add to what they are building. Trading Keller just makes no sense for a rebuilding team when he is the kind of player most teams try to build around. They do have other players they can trade at this time if they want to that is.
Bedard and a 5000 seat arena.

He is a good player. II really don't think the Sens take an undersized D at this point.

Probably right on the Sens not taking him at 7. I would not but that was not part of the initial comment.

My God Cooley is insane.

Can't believe we slipped off from a top 5 pick. Can't believe it.
Not very hard to believe, they really weren't close to a top 5 pick in the end. Easy April schedule and a young core that played hard down the stretch. We finished a full 10-13 points up on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th worst teams.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a bit of a drop off after 6? I know there has been lots of talk about trading the pick, but what about trading up? Would any teams be interested? With where we are in the rebuild I think it is more important to try and grab a couple guys that can make an impact quicker rather than stock the cupboard as much as possible with guys that might take a while. I think one of the D, Slafkovsky, or Kemell would be who I really want.

If the Sens are unable to draft Jiricek or Nemec, I wonder if they use there two seconds or do something to move up into the first to select Tristan Luneau RD?

I see five players (Wright, Slafkovsky, Cooley, Jiricek, Nemec) who are pretty solidly at the top and then a few guys like Savoie, Kemell and Gauthier who some have at the lower end of that top grouping.

Yeah it seemed to me that most of what I was hearing suggested Kemell is pretty good too. But I don't really have any knowledge of evaluating players so I'm not going to pretend I know anything.

I’d bet a good amount that we’d have Chesley ranked higher.
I don’t disagree.

Senators can afford to wait on a player like Hutson with the LHD depth they have and especially if hes there with one of their seconds I don’t see any reason he isn’t BPA.

I think it’s a risk that Ottawa can take. This is a high risk/reward pick.

Unfortunately, I know how the Senators scouting staff operates and I do realize it’s a pipe dream.

When WAS the last time the Sens made a risky selection similar to Hutson at the NHL draft? Todd Burgess? Jarrod Maidens? Mads Sogaard?

Depends.

If he's a pure center, I have a hard time seeing him be an impact player in the NHL at his size. If he can transition well to RW, he has a much better chance of being the guy we need.
Do you ever watch other teams? His best comparable is Brayden point. The guy who led the last two playoffs in goal scoring. He’s the pick here no doubt (assuming no surprises in the top 6)

Lane hudson looks amazing too but we all know there’s a 0% chance that Ottawa takes him. Too small and skilled

Point is a unicorn surrounded by elite talent.

You're asking one hell of a lot for a kid who isn't ranked in the top 5 to duplicate that. It is possible he could get to that level, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Savoie could be Point 2.0 is what I’m saying
