It is just simple: only a couple teams will get someone who can step into the NHL and it likely will not be the leafs regardless of who is there at 25.

Saying Dubas needs to get a 4C from day one is just a silly assertion. It won't happen and recent evidence proves that.
Only because Dubie has not drafted FAST guys .. his focus on purely SKILL is a huge error and why he is a rook GM .. you start off with a guy who can skate at NHL level now that is step #1 .. and you start with a guy who is innately strong on skates/puck .. then you look for a guy who won't cost you games with poor decisions on wrong side of puck .. and when you get that guy and guys who know O like back of their hand say he will develop over 2-3 years into a 2C then you got da right guy

Not fast enough and not strong enough .. but skill and passion are nice features .. guys rarely pick up NHL speed and strength .. you are either born with it or not .. you can only WILL yourself so far in hockey
Strength can be taught... speed to some degree too, of course you are born with certain range of achievable speed. Offensive talent is something you are born with or not as well..... So is IQ. You can teach positioning, reading plays... if someone can learn.

What makes you think Beck has the offensive upside, that warrants a #25 pick? He's a guy I've actually named as someone I'd pick in the second round, if we had a pick in the top half of the second round though. Seriously, sell me on why he has more offensive upside, than he's displayed.. what are we missing there.

That would be a really weird move, for a team desperate for a C. Of course, maybe they are thinking that they will be so bad this year, they'll get another shot at a C next year? Five of the top Eight ranked players for next years drafts, are currently C's.

Yes. Just because Dubas went for Dermott doesn't mean there weren't other good players HFboards had touted for 2015 (i.e. Aho, Kylington).

This draft is deep and that is also why it's super hard to predict what the draft will look like from 15-45 lets say.

It may not have as many or any franchise level players - but it does have a lot of good talent that can hit the NHL
Pretty sure that was Hunter running the draft

Great name. Is he a realistic target?
ESPN Mock draft .. NHL mock draft: Projections for all 32 first-round picks

24. Minnesota Wild: Rutger McGroarty, RW, USNTDP

The Wild land a winger who had 35 goals in 54 games for the U.S. national under-18 team. There are some questions about his skating ability at the NHL level.

i

25. Toronto Maple Leafs: Isaac Howard, LW, USNTDP

Terrific instincts, a shifty skater and delightfully labeled "stocky" by some scouts. The Leafs would be thrilled if Howard lasted this long in the draft.

i

26. Montreal Canadiens (from CGY): Liam Ohgren, LW/C, Djurgarden Jr. (Sweden)

Liam Ohgren and Noah Ostlund are the top Swedish center prospects in the draft. Ohgren is bigger and has a better all-around game. He's more of a goal-scorer than a playmaker. But he might have a bit less upside than Ostlund, and hence lands here.

Lol hilarious stuff. Yeah, they should draft another Freddie the Goat because he’s big strong and can skate. Never mind he has absolutely no mind for the game. Skill & IQ over everything. You can put on meat or work with a kid to have better feet. You can’t teach between the ears, or high end skill

I'm secretly holding my breath for Liam Öhgren the young captain of the Swedish U18 team, who seems like a younger version of Avs Gabriel Landeskog,
How good are you at keeping secrets?:sarcasm:

All very good points but we know that Dubas has his own thoughts and methods. Draft seems to be another place where he will try and re-invent the wheel.
Lets hope it all works out.

Isaac Howard would be real nice if he dropped to us. Don’t see it though.

25 + Mrazek for 7 + Murray no retain.

Who says no?

Murray makes a lot for our cap structure and especially for his performance, but adding the 7th pick to the pipeline would be huge for having high end elc talent that can supplement the big 3 on their 3rd deals. It’s only 2 years same as mrazek.
I’d think long and hard about it

Me too, took the bait
