Realistically, anyone with true expectations for this Jets team are setting themselves up for disappointment. And while that may be annoying having been a fan of a team that hasn't made the playoffs in a decade, it's the reality. This is an entirely new team for the most part with a first time head coach, first time offensive coordinator and a rookie QB heading the youngest team in the league. If you're not expecting bumps along this road, then I don't know what to tell you.

Now, there are plenty of things to be concerned about. The offensive line was trash for the majority of the game yesterday. Zach was running for his life the entire first half. The running game was non-existent as a result, but none of that collection of RBs stood out. The tight end group is mostly scrubs, and a halfway decent one would help Zach out tremendously. If we're without Becton for an extended period of time, it could be an even longer season than before.

All that said, I'm encouraged by quite a few things:

1. Zach responded to adversity really well in the second half. After getting the shit kicked out of him for 30 minutes, I thought his response was excellent and showed he's a leader. When he had a second to finally process and not run for his life, he made some impressive throws. I'm very hopeful from what he showed yesterday.
2. Corey Davis looks like he'll be the best WR we've had on this team since Marshall and Decker, though that isn't saying too much given the list of wideouts since then.
3. THE COACHING STAFF MADE HALF TIME ADJUSTMENTS! I couldn't tell you the last time we had a staff who did this. And they worked!
4. I think Saleh is going to be the real deal. Dude is a leader and I think he has a great idea on what he is doing defensively. There are a lot of no-names on the defensive side of the ball and I was worried about the corner situation but they more than held their own. This is the best I've seen our corners tackle since Rex's days here. I thought overall, the defense did an admirable job given they were on the field a lot in the first half and only gave up 3 points in the second half. And for what it's worth, disregard what much of the media will say, Darnold didn't have some sort of spectacular game. Having McCaffrey as your security blanket will do wonders for you overall which is why he had so many touches. I'm happy for him, though. I want him to succeed now that we're past him.

I know preaching patience to a Jets fan is ill advised, but I'm doing my best with it.

The Becton thing is my main worry from Week 1, both pre and post injury. He’s been awful all of camp, was bad in Week 1 and can’t stay on the field. That doesn’t help an already weak line.

My only knock from a strategy point was why are you running a fourth and one into the line when you didn’t get jack running the ball all day? That was the time for either a play action pass or bootleg.

The play calling on offense was worrisome in that first half. I will say that I was glad to see that the staff had a good pulse of when it made sense to go for it on 4th down and when not to, as well as the 2 point conversion attempts. Too often, coaches are plagued by being conservative. Gase was horrible with that.

Hell, Rhule for Carolina had the worst conservative play of the day punting on the Jets 33 in the first half.

Also, I know every team is affected by injuries in the NFL, but keep in mind the Jets invested in the pass rush heavily in the offseason in Carl Lawson and Vinny Curry and lost both of them before Week 1.

It's going to be a trial by fire for much of this team on defense but Saleh seems like the guy I want to lead a young group such as this. He seems like the type who is capable of coaching guys up to their potential abilities. Who knows what they have at some of these positions aside from the front 4, but I was very encouraged by the play of the cornerbacks.

I'm pleased with Saleh. I didn't feel much disgust with the outcome of the game. As long as he keeps it close, then I'll call it a moral victory.

So teams might figured out how to play Josh Allen, apparently the Steelers hardly blitzed at all on Sunday and this came after the Ravens beat Allen and the Bills in the playoffs with the same strategy.

Oops, I did read they did employ it.

Edit: now I'm not sure what I'm talking about lol

Edit2: There is this tweet from a Bills fan that no one seems to disagree with:

But I thought the Chiefs blitzed him in the playoffs, but sometimes if a team is pressuring the QB all the time, it seems like they're bringing the red dog.

Guy was happy for that day, good for him. He's basically rooting for Jets South and his team got zero rings from the Shula/Marino combination. Keep popping that 50 year old champagne every year though.

they play Miami next week...I just don't know if Miami's pass rush is good enough to do that

I would stick Xavien Howard on Diggs all game and let Baker spy Allen all game
Pretty much agree on us pressuring the QB, the only guy we have that I consider a legit pass rusher is Ogbah, there is Jaelan Phillips but he didn't really impress me much yesterday but he's a rookie of course. BTW I hate his number #15, looks so unnatural on a DE.

He might be 1A, top CB in the league.
Well I thought Jalen Ramsey was considered the unanimous top CB, but if hes that highly rated thats probably why I have heard of him

i know Gilmore had that crazy season a few years back

The Bills will still be very good, but their schedule is tougher and they got some fortunate bounces last season (opponents missed quite a few field goals, etc). They'll still win the division but it will be closer than a lot of people think.

The offensive line is not as good as they think it is. A lot of the defensive performance, especially upfront, hinges on 1st and 2nd year players.

Daboll called an awful game in Sunday. Scratching their power running back and going with two waterbugs against the Steelers is a head scratcher. Defense didn't make big plays. Couldn't punish the Steelers for their slow start. Seemed like they were trying to establish a new identity early, and when that didn't pay off the reverted back to last years team which is exactly what the Steelers wanted.

I don't expect Miami to beat Buffalo this week, but whew boy if they get to 2-0 and send Buffalo to 0-2, I will be ecstatic

Drops a wide open TD then gives up a quick one next drive.

f*** this Giants team.

game over….oh man, id be pissed at that ending…..

….but they did have a great opening drive and ate half the quarter with a called QB run for the TD and running a couple of run option plays….who does that in the nfl?
