whatever happened to pounding the ball on the ground and wearing out the opposition's defence with an 8 minute time munching drive

Keep in mind that running the ball is a disadvantage for the offense. It was on 9 guys to block 11. The rule changes over the last 15 years have made it easier for offenses to move the ball by passing. So teams started to implement pass heavy offenses. So, lineman are now developed to pass protect instead of run block. Defenses have shrunk in size a bit to be faster to deal with passing offenses.

Teams that have drafted athletic QBs are trying to exploit smaller defenses by making it 10 guys trying to block 11. It works until the QB gets hurt. See: Jackson, Lamar

Between each series he’s sitting on the bench and clearly not making any effort to engage with teammates or coaches and he’s not looking at replays on the surface
I was noticing the exact same thing. Body language says it all.

I look very forward to the Packers not having a franchise QB for the first time in 30 years.

Ditto for the Steelers

Their fans need to suffer for a few decades
