Moreso than his size, the thing that might hold him back from the NHL is his skating.

Not because it's bad, but he likes to have the puck on his stick and his skating might prevent him from keeping the same style in the pros that is making him so successful in the NCAA. If he alters his game in the pros, will there be enough in there to make the NHL as a 5'5 D?
That's what scares me the most, way more then if he's 5'09 or 5'11

My other issue is his point totals to date. Too many goals, not enough assists to translate well to the NHL, in my opinion.

As the season progresses I will hope to see more creativity making the four guys around him more productive.

With his weakish shot, I'm thinking he will not be a strong NHL goal scorer. To fulfill his potential, which is high for sure, he will need to be an elite assist generator at the NHL level. If he can do that, I am not too worried about the defending side of the game, as he has always had good +/- numbers so I trust his instincts and he could be paired with a big partner who is strong defensively.

Can’t help but shake the feeling he can be a special player.

I was originally hoping to draft him with the 33rd pick, so yeah, I’m a fan.
Completely agree. It feels almost as though he's the Caufield of D. Has so much talent and does everything right. Said it before, but if he was 6'2", he'd have been a top 10 maybe 5 pick in his draft. Added to Mesar and Beck, Habs did REALLY well this year with their late 1sts/2nd round picks.

I don't think this is a bad take. Most of his goals have been in close and I am skeptical he would have as many inclose chances in the pros. When you watch Makar play, for example, one of the things that helps him is he's got a great writer From the point, so you have to respect both the shot and the passes. Hutson needs to work on his shot to make the dual threat more credible.

I disagree on the passing part though. The guy makes great and creative passes all game long. I think there's been a few times I've saw him make beautiful passes to wide open players and those players have just held the puck or tried to dangle instead of one-timeing it into the open net. With a good goal scorer he would have some more assists.

Also the few games I watched he was used on PP2, next year when Fensore is gone and Hutson moves up to PP1 I think you'll see a step change in production, especially assists.

I hope you are right about Mesar. He was looking good in camp, but is currently way to far down in the OHL scoring for us to be optimistic at this time that he was drafted later than he should have been.

Guindon and Rohrer are outscoring him, and Beck is far ahead in his entire game.

Hopefully Mesar finds another gear.

We certainly have good farm system. Everyday I come in here it's positive posts about Beck,Heineman, Mailloux, Hutson, Mesar. Well we drafted high this draft plus traded good players for extra picks. Guys like Toffoli, Lekhonen. Only makes sense.

Let's do it again at the 2023 TDL and draft. You can't have too much of a good thing.

If Lane is on PP2, then they think he is not worthy yet of being on PP1, so again I think we need to reserve judgment and not get carried away yet by his being a bit over 1.0 ppg so far.

I think he will. He's incredibly skilled but plays on a really bad Kitchener team. Hopefully he'll get traded to a better team and can show off his skill set more.

He already has more goals than Makar's year as a freshman, not that he's Makar lol, but dam impressive

He will probably not maintain the .5 goal per game, but If you look up to the list of dman u19 in the NCAA, it's pretty impressive only for a ppg standpoint. They are all at .78 or higher.
