While the on ice product sucks and is not worth watching, the offseason will be incredibly entertaining.

Lol
How many trade requests will be put in?
55
PLD
Stanley
Helle
Connor
Ehlers
Ville

I'm predicting almost the entire team puts in trade requests, and at most 1 player gets moved.

Sounds like the world's worst gameshow!

Would like to see 1 or 2 more 2023 1sts if they move Scheifele and/or PLD in the summer. Load up in a deep draft to kick start the rebuild.
They should have unloaded both of them before deadline. They knew their attitude stunk for awhile now

The picture they showed of Chevy during the Nashville game looks like a man hoping to keep his job. I know I have said in the past he is safe, but I'm beginning to change that.

Even if the Jets make the playoffs, they could be looking at a major downswing with a major rebuild coming. The question TNSE needs to be asking is... is Chevy the guy to take you thru a rebuild?

they just signed him after last seasons poor showing to a 3-year deal. however they make it, or you frame it if they make the POs itll looked as to be an improvement. and i don't know if they want to be paying out 2 GM salaries.

The Jets actually did an amazing job in their last rebuild so I would be good if Chevy stays around.

Chevy has done well with contract negotiations, trade compensation, team generally drafts very well. The only issue I have is that they seem to lack aggressiveness in fixing team holes, though part of that is due to lack of opportunity of being the GM in Winnipeg where a lot of higher end players have us on no trade lists and it’s hard to get UFA’s.

I will have to respectfully disagree here .

All of the points you mentioned do not mean anything if the team isn’t at least a strong contender year after year .

Imo The state of the one ice product is the only way to judge if a gm does a good job or not.

I don’t think you can simply ignore the Winnipeg market issue. Of course, how the Jets performed after their breakthrough year was massively disappointing.

So, what Chevy has demonstrated that he did a great job rebuilding the team but failed at keeping the window open for future contending years.

If it’s a question of keeping Chevy for another rebuild, which he previously did very well with, then I would be good keeping Chevy for that. If he struggles to keep a contention window open, I would have a quick trigger on him (though, I wonder if Chipman was providing a negative influence on that aspect).

Yes - and no.
You have to consider context to some extent. Chevy started with what amounted to an expansion team. Not a Vegas/Seattle expansion team, a 1970s expansion team.

There are too many gaps and holes to be able to say he has done a great job, but all-in-all he has done a good job.

What concerns me is that I think the drafting has fallen off. That may not be directly on Chevy but if his scouting staff is not doing the job well enough then he needs to make some changes there.

Good points and I agree somewhat

I thought more deeply on the subject . And there is a lot of context to it .

For me a big failure is not assembling a team that knows how to get out of a funk quickly enough .

Is there not one team on his back type of leader ? Or do our players just not have the heart? Even one of them ?

Do they not know how to work together and lean on each other during hard times ?

This all comes back to chevy and his ability to build a contender .

He has been middle of the pack for me and I knew direction could benefit us greatly

I agree he has been middle of the pack, maybe even upper middle. But GM'ing is a little like goaltending. There is some voodoo in there. When you see how absolutely horrible some GMs can be, I don't like the risk factor in making a change unless Chevy f***s up a lot worse than he has so far. Or continues his mediocrity much longer. I'm not ready to pull the pin yet.

Another no show by the team. Another game when Helle is not a difference maker.

Much easier on my psyche now that I have given up on the season :)

Chevy (or his replacement) needs to burn this to the ground.

Pretty safe to say we are in full-on tank mode. They have clearly given up, and as a fan, that is insanely disheartening, especially considering the success they were having in the first half of the season, giving us hope that they, as a team after so many years, have finally turned a corners.

Clearly they have not.

Have a feeling they’re going to back door their way into playoffs again. Like… get a loser point in last game or something. That would be so Jets.

These guys are what they are a soft bubble team. I have no faith that they will blow it up unless forced. My guess is they try to sign all 3 of 80 55 37 and try to make changes around the edges. Maybe make a trade nothing crazy.

The goal of this organization is to make the playoffs thats the holy grail. No way when they are so close to being in the playoffs will they dismantle it.

They aren't going anywhere with this core and its unlikely to change. Hopefully they will be forced to make big changes. I sure would like to be wrong on this.

At the moment I believe 19th OA pick in the draft is our pick, I wonder how much further we could fall playing like we are to improve our pick. I mean this team is cooked this season, its not doing anything for weeks now. Embrace the tank is on for me. Might want to start playing some of the kids this season very shortly, get them experience, see what they have, etc

This summer I'm perfectly open to signing Mark and Helle, I assume PLD is traded...........

OR

just trade PLD, Wheels, Mark, Nino and Helle and whatever other expiring contracts we have to fully embrace the rebuild with a massive kick start. Trading those guys would absolutely speed up any rebuild or restructure.

Would be a decent start if they fall out of the playoffs and get the Florida 1st in a Dubois trade. Pick twice between 15 - 20, sign me up!!!

Nino & Wheeler likely fetch mid to late picks.

Mark & Helle each would return a 1st rd pick & good prospect and maybe a young roster player

PLD returns a 1st rd pick and decent prospect, maybe a roster player also.

Summary:

Three 1st rd picks, all decent value ones not late picks. 15th-20th range roughly each
Three good prospects
Three potentially younger roster players
A couple mid to late rd picks, plus who ever else we trade.

Rebuild can look different ways, no single right way to do one. Futures (prospects & picks) can be retained to develop slowly over time or can be used in the right situations as trade currency to get roster players. Either way they are used this would greatly speed up any rebuild or retool, if forced to by Mark/Helle not resigning and PLD traded.
