Karlsson and Kahkonen could go to Pittsburgh if Petry is coming back. Pittsburgh has 20 mil in cap space though they need at least five forwards, a d-man, and a goalie. Just that basis would add six mil to Pittsburgh's cap which would still allow for 14 mil to address the skaters that still need to be added there. I'd take back Jeff Carter too if he would waive for San Jose with the understanding that we'd flip him to a contender at the deadline.

If we're taking back a huge cap dump then i want Pickering on top of 14.

If we're talking Karlsson at 9.5 and Kahkonen for Petry to start, yeah I would probably want 14 and another asset like Pickering though Pickering plays a spot we have an abundance of currently. I think I'd prefer Broz to Pickering if we can't just get a top ten protected 2024 1st off of the Pens.

Wait if Petry is coming our way... How is this not for EK65? I could see Pitt desperately trying to do one more run with their tankbois. Not sure why EK65 would agree to go there though given that they missed the ploffs.
Beggers can't be choosers. If Karlsson wants to win a Cup, he'll have a better chance almost anywhere else than San Jose.

Petry is an absolute negative. Giving up 26, Kahkonen and Karlsson to get 14? No thanks.
Petry and 14th for Kahkonen, Gregor, and 26th. Pittsburgh adds some much needed bottom 6 speed that ever so often turns into Ovechkin as a scorer. Even throw in Lorentz to beef up their bottom 6 too. Just really want to get another early pick (and preferably multiple of them via a cap dump and a Karlsson trade).

Karlsson to Pittsburgh would definitely be a CP3 type of move to get Crosby/Malkin a final Cup.
I don't understand why he'd waive for Pittsburgh though. I don't see them winning again, and he would be far from the guy there. Sure it would be fun, but it's similar to Edmonton that, while fun, makes no sense. Plus they already have Letang.

I'd do it although I would prefer not to throw in Lorentz.

If this the deal I like it, we didn't even trade Karlsson and we are getting a 14th pick which gives us a big opportunity to draft a possible core player, maybe even one of the better defencemen. Then you trade Karlsson to Seattle for #20 and some young prospect. If this all happens, I'm jumping in happiness.

Adding Lorentz in to beep up a bottom-6 is like rotating your tires to make your car go faster.

I'd be shocked if it happened.

He's a fine NHL caliber 4th liner on a cheap short-term contract. Can PK and play tough zone start minutes effectively. He's not flashy, but he's the type of player you see on winning teams come playoff time.

14+Petry for KK, Gregor, and Barabanov
EK65@9M for 20+Wright

Come out of this draft with 4, 14, 20, 26 and Wright

Rebuild successful.
I imagine Wright might come to San Jose in a Hertl deal...

I'm not sure that he is; on a playoff team (or at least a contending team) he's in the press box.
