Id much rather the sharks trade ek and keep Timo. That’s probably not realistic but that’s my personal opinion. Timo will likely fetch more than ek will, so it’s hard for the sharks to turn that down

Thinking out loud.....I wonder if there's a trade with Colorado that's possible.

To COL:
Couture (retained 1-2m to make money work)
Ferraro
Contract dump like Gregor

To SJ:
Newhook
Girard
Rodrigues (cap dump, UFA this year)

Colorado get's a bonafide 2C with proven playoff pedigree in exchange for Girard, who is superfluous on that roster and definitely not worth the 5M. Their contracts both expire the same year. Colorado also gets Ferraro, Makar's college D partner, to replace Toews, who they probably can't resign after next year. Yes, they lose Newhook, but he isn't the 2C they need now to win with this roster before MacK's cap hit doubles.

Sharks can use Girard to carry the offensive mail if they trade Karlsson and might get their 2c of the future.

Hertl is who should have been traded last year, but all the geniuses want to blame Grier for that, lul. Hertl, the 8x8 player who is as soft as charmin, but hey, at least he's a point per game playa! Thats what matters!

Re-sign Meier to 8x9. Trade Karlsson if you can magically find a mere 25% retainment. Otherwise, keep him. And how about re-calling Dell, or, I don't know, literally anybody, and tell the worst goalie in NHL history to pack his bags. On second thought, i'd seriously consider decking him in the face before he walks out of the building. Releasing him lets the little twerp off easy. And genius Wilson actually sent a solid 2nd pairing d man who was cheap for this laughable prick. Utterly hilarious.

Literally 0 posters here have ever blamed Grier for Hertl. We all know the Hertl contract was awful and keeping him set the franchise even further back. You're preaching to the choir but doing it in an obnoxious way. I suggest you give it a rest or you won't last long here.

Just curious, what are your thoughts on Bob Boughner?

He had a very stale defensive system. Im a much bigger fan of Quinn's, but in Quinn's system, the need for actual mogging is even more necessary. Now go watch your JT Miller highlights and fantasize about his "point per game production" because that's all you care about.

Why complain about Hertl? List of contracts on this team worse than Hertl: Vlassic, Karlsson, Couture, Labanc. Add that to the dead money from Jones and Burns and Hertl seems like small potatoes and isn't anywhere near as bad as those signings. The timing is what was bad.

We aren't a bad team due to lack of checking. We are a bad team because we have terrible goaltending, terrible defense and don't score goals. Grier hasn't addressed any of those things.

Those things are on the past regime, but I won't pretend Grier has done much good yet but most of his signings haven't worked out. Even to what could be hoped.

I'm not 100% on the timeline, but I like the number of nhl-potential goalie prospects in the org. Getting Makiniemi was a Grier move, which is a better odds dice roll than anything we had in the system. And while Kahkonen has been undoubtedly bad, the state of our defense spares him a little time before I'd curtain call his starter potential.

I disagree that most of his signings haven't worked out. I think Grier has delivered on signing and bringing in guys who compete hard every shift as a way to revitalize the culture. Sturm and Kunin have made the most of the games they've played in, lorentz has been the ideal 4th liner, and even Benning has played above his contract, he's just in the wrong role.

That was all he could do given the timing of his hire and the realities of the Sharks roster and I think he's done a great job so far. That said, i'm expecting big things in the next 9 months and think those will be the real tests of his savvy-ness and negotiating skills.

Last night was further evidence of what we all know. This thing needs to get rehauled with fresh blood. Build up the prospect pool and bring in a few up and coming prospects from other orgs. Meier, EK, Reimer, Bonino, Couture, should all be flipped for high end prospects and picks. If we’re going to be competitive anytime soon it’s going to be because of a youth movement led by Hertl. Our new captain.

I’d love that but 0 chance Colorado does that.

Don’t think advocating violence is a good look. It’s pretty childish imo.

We don't know what Wilson would have done if he didn't trade Karlsson - trade for someone else? And we don't know what happens if the trade never happens. Maybe the playoff run in 2019 never happens and then they aren't 3rd worst in the league in 2020 and Ottawa gets 10th overall instead.

My view is that's an interesting way of justifying a bad trade.

Timo's agent hasn't talked to Sharks or any other team about a new deal, yet. Could stay with SJ.

I’m not surprised by this and it lines up with what most of us were saying. I know on the main boards people are claiming we won’t get what we want for him (top prospects/picks) but if that’s the chance we will keep him. I don’t agree with keeping him because it will be Hertl all over again but still.

Holtz,1st, and something else should be enough to get the deal done. You may need to take back an expiring contract to get it done, a Andreas JOhnsson or Miles Wood come to mind.

I mean I’d do this but I’d also hope that another team comes in with a better offer with a D/C prospect in there. We got wingers, we don’t have any C or D prospects.

Holtz is a C/D prospect? C'mon now. 20 y/o, PPG in AHL, #7th overall who rode shotgun with Eklund. He's a top prospect.

SJ is in a rebuild, I wouldn't be so concerned with position. You need assets. Go get picks and use them this draft for that positional need.
We literally have no C or D prospects outside of Bystedt (probably maxes out as a 3C) and Laroque (probably maxes out as a 2nd pairing D). If someone came in and offered say Nikishin, Raty, McMichael, Lapierre, Morrow (just a few that have been mentioned by fans around Timo), I take that.

SJ isn’t looking to take 10+ years to rebuild. If Holtz is the best prospect offered than sure but all of those guys are similar to Holtz and fill much more of a need than Holtz. I like Holtz too just not exactly what we need.
