He's coming over next year. He stopped into Utica last season for a couple games after the KHL season.

Devils would do something like

1st Rounder
Holtz
and one of Mukhamadulin or Villen
Maybe Sharangovich

I also wonder if the Devils need to throw salary the other way to make it work in the form of:
Andreas Johnsson
Miles Wood

And I wonder if SJ would ask to swap out Reimer for Blackwood.
I don't think the Sharks would have a problem with taking back salary if it's expiring or movable. Johnsson may have San Jose on his no-trade list which could default it to be Wood and Sharks sure as shit will flip him if there's any sort of trade value there. I don't think the goalie swap makes any sense for the Sharks. If they can't move Reimer for a draft pick then they should just let his contract expire or re-sign him for another year.

Thank you for that heads up. I’m excited to hear that he’s coming. I’d like to draft Michkov and that may lead him to coming over as well. As for that trade, I’m in.

I get the Reimer thing perspective - I had thought SJ would maybe look to getting Blackwood in on an audition for a contract to be a future goalie. But I hear you.

With respect, I just don’t think Blackwood is any good, and I kinda don’t love how he handled the vaccine thing. No interest in him. If you want Reimer, we could definitely work something out, but Blackwood doesn’t have value to me.

Really hope Grier is pushing for higher quality in return for Timo. Holtz + a late 1st would be nice but if he could get Nemec or Mercer back as the main piece it would be huge for the Sharks.

If we're looking to move Couture then how about to the Avs for Girard and Oskar Olausson.
Not the biggest Girard fan but he'd help with the money side of the deal and if the Sharks do move Karlsson he'd have a bigger role with the Sharks

Holtz has much higher upside than Mercer.
I dont really love Holtz either tbh. Hopefully Sharks can target a package with a more sure fire prospect coming back. Shame to get a Holtz and the 25th pick back and possibly end up with 0 NHL'ers for Timo. Sharks have to win this trade because there is no one in SJ left with much value. This trade has to jump start this rebuild.

Does Pagnotta have any creditbility anymore?

This article lists says Philly, Buffalo and Winnipeg as other teams interested in Meier.

I think Buffalo could have some really nice prospects for us, the other two not so much.

A bit. Not super credible but definitely is fine.

WPG makes a bit of sense. I like Lambert, Lucius, Heinola, Salomonsson, McGroarty, probably a few others.

PHI makes sense in that that’s what management would do. Philly has a few guys a bit older in Cates, Frost, York, Attard (22/23) that I think Grier would like and also Brink, Foerster, Andrae, Kaplin and their first.

Jump starting the rebuild oddly enough doesn't really require there to be NHL players as a part of the trade. Look at what Taylor Hall did for the Devils, gave them a piece to draft Dawson Mercer, get Kevin Bahl, a 3rd rounder the Devils used later to get Jonas Siegenthaler.

The Devils could trade back someone maybe like a Sharangovich or a MIles Wood - but it's not going to be needle moving NHL players, because the teams that want Meier, need him to add on, not to replace.

I meant 0 NHL'ers as in Hotlz not becoming one and the 25th overall pick not hitting. Since 2010 there has only been 2 hits for full time NHL'ers from pick 25 (just using a theoretical 25th for the Devils 1st) we have Jack Roslovic and Pasta. So if Timo goes for a no one at 25th + Holtz, just would be bummer value.

That's not how valuing draft picks works, though. There's more NHL players picked at #26 during that timeline. Does it make the 26th pick more valuable than 25th? No. No draft pick is a sure-fire home run but we need a crap ton of those chances if there's a rebuild coming.

This is correct. The Devils have been rebuilding in earnest since about 2016 - and if you look here - it's not about getting picks right/wrong - you have to obviously believe in your staff and development to do that. However, you need volume of picks to reach that level: Check out Devils draft history here in recent years, and look at the number of picks they've had. Literally all im saying is that I think its a weak package for Timo. Hopefully the Sharks can do better than a Holtz and 25th ish

I think it starts with Holtz/25th - I assume the Devils send back Johnsson or a Wood for cap purposes.

I think the Devils would include another prospect - Reilly Walsh, Topias Villien - somewhere in there.

I wonder if SJ asked for Kevin Bahl, would they throw him in there as well.

So you're thinking Holtz OR the 2023 1st+Vilen+Bahl

I waffle back and forth between a full rebuild and whatever retool Grier talked about at his hiring. Here are some random questions and thoughts, but what the hell do I know.

Timo is an elite volume shooter and elite at entering the zone. I think he’s working on his playmaking, but it’s not his strength. His defense is good enough, not special. Quinn gives Meier offensive zone starts and Meier feasts. To be fair, Boughner started Meier in the defensive zone more often than not and Meier was still strong last season. Meier’s value may never be higher.

Is this evaluation fair? I‘m not sure this is the type of player to build around as I think Grier wants two way players, or at least ones with that reputation. If the org wants to keep Meier,I would say take Hertl’s contract or go. Use Hertl as cap culture for the org.

Holtz’s draft profile seemed to be a mature two-way scoring winger that endears himself to coaches. is this still the case? This seems to fit Grier’s player profile. Or, is he a one dimensional sniper that offers little value.

I‘m genuinely curious what Meier’s value is given what he does for a team and whether or not Holtz should be a target.

I feel like we have to temper the expectations of a Meier return. I'd personally be pretty ecstatic if Grier was able to pull off something like Holtz and a late first for Timo.

With prospects, a lot of it comes down to how the parties see it. I could imagine a scenario where the Devils trade a bunch of prospects they aren't high on, and the Sharks aren't high on, but that the fanbase likes.
