24/25 Waivers/Rumors/TDL Thread.

Was thinking oilers are hating on skinner .... tarasenko 1.750 off so the salary is the same with the Oilers sending a 3rd or 4th and we open a spot for next season

Think oilers do it ? Should we ?
 
Would anyone have interest in Rust? I know Detroit was interested last year, and his 5 mill cap hit for the next 3 years doesn’t look so bad with the cap going up. Could help the top 9

I'd take him, but I wouldn't want to pay anything of value and they would have to take Tarasenko.

So they probably say no to that lol.

Schenn shouldn't cost more than a 3rd, provides grit and playoff experience, and is an upgrade on Holl. No reason to not pull the trigger if he's available.

Schenn for a third is fine, I personally however would first take a run at Soucy if actually available. The good news about trying to upgrade Holl is that a lot of players are an upgrade to Holl.

Stop in your heads trying to make a trade just to make a trade people. Dobson does not fit detroits style of play nor does he fit our roster construction. Absolutely not worth what it would take to get him.

I don't understand the Chiarot comparison at all. I think he is a good, realistic option for upgrading the bottom pair without cutting us off from making other moves.

It's fun to shoot the shit about different options but, I am mostly with you. Yzerman has preached a methodical and patient rebuild and I expect that to continue through this trade deadline. There are obviously two types of moves: long term or short term

As far as the long term goes, I'd do another Debrincat style trade in a heartbeat. In reality I think this style of trade is more likely in the summer/at the draft.

That leaves the short term. I'm okay with a low cost rental or contract swap. I wouldn't pay more than a 3rd or 4th + a depth prospect. 1sts and 2nds should be off limits for a rental at this point (or anyone over 32/33).

I'll probably fling some more proposals around but I'll emphasize this one more time: Yzerman has preached a methodical and patient rebuild and I expect that to continue through this trade deadline.

Ya I saw them afterwards. Lombardi was more cause of the pandemic and everyone missed a whole season so im hoping he can turn out to be really good for us

We're long overdue to have picks in later rounds turn into something of significance

I’m fine with it too, but I wished if we did that people would actually think logically about trades and how our playstyle is and what players actually fit our needs and style of play. You can’t just insert guys like this is a video game.

I think he would be a good option for the bottom pair for a few seasons. Let the big guy eat up defensive zone starts and work the PK. Someone similar to Lilja during his first two or 3 seasons with the Wings before he started to really slow down would be helpful. Having a braindead offensive defensemen on the 3rd pairing who doesn't actually produce offense (Gustafsson) is a missed opportunity to have someone who could actually be useful in filling a role and let the more talented defensemen on the roster spend more time in the offensive zone.

If somebody doesn't happen to like a given player, they have a right to their opinion. But how exactly does Dobson not fit? He's a 6'4" defenseman with 215 points in 363 career games who eats minutes, making $4M, with horrible timing to have a down year and get hurt before becoming an RFA.

I'm certainly not rushing to get rid of a Kasper or a Danielson. But depending on how long the kid needs to get healthy, I'm ABSOLUTELY lining up to work my options for a Dobson trade - good players in that age bracket are EXACTLY what Detroit should be shopping for.

Here's an excerpt from a current story on the situation:


"Dobson is currently on long-term injured reserve after sustaining a lower-body injury on Jan. 4. Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello said he could return to the ice during the latter part of the upcoming two-week break, but there is no timetable for when he will be game-ready.

"There's no point in shopping Dobson just to stop him because he's still an incredibly valuable defenseman, at just 24. However, as we've speculated numerous times here, if Dobson can be the key piece in a trade for a talented forward, that makes more sense on the Islanders' front.

"And most teams around the NHL would be in the market for a top-end offensive defenseman who still has a ton of potential."

Agreed on all of this. Also on top of the cost, most big time deadline deals do not mesh with the new team that season. The best deadline deals are typically for purely complimentary parts, like the Brad Stuart deal. If you are making a big deal it typically makes much more sense to do it in the off season or at least prior to the holiday break.

I could see the Wings going for a 3rd pair dman to replace Holl and/or a 4th line center that is good on draws. Larkin is our only super consistent draw winner, so I could see them shoring that up.

I like Dobson a lot but he's still probably going to get a Hronek type deal at min, and we'd have to give up a solid asset to get him. While I do want to address a LD partner for Seider, I would like it to be a semi cost effective vet. We have far less established young offensive assets than defensive assets, so I don't see the need to deal from a position of weakness to address something that is a strength long term. (I hate Chia in the top 4 but I'd rather deal with that until the off season than give up Buch, Danielson, Kasper etc.)
