Stephens was slightly better than nothing. I suspect that my opinion will not change. It is just a vast void out there for coverage of the Ducks, and the Ducks themselves do very little to try to change this. Perhaps it would change if the Ducks made media and public relations a priority.

I actually like Stephens and think he’s a pretty good writer. I just know going in to his articles he is not an “insider” but I did like the storylines he wrote about.

I’m kind of bummed out that he Will be covering that lane team and it’s fans to the north.

I’ve never liked that dude to begin with. Now I might actually hate him and wonder when the f are we going to get a legit insider for our team? You reading this stephens? You’re a mother fing hack!

It's actually not his fault. I remember reading somewhere that the LA Kings writer left when I first noticed Stephens sharing Kings' content. I think the writer was Lisa Dillman, iirc. Maybe the pay wasn't that good to retain Dillman. Also, it's probably put Stephens in a bind to take on a second gig, but not get paid for 2 gigs. Otherwise, the Athletic could have signed someone cheaper. After listening to him on the Crash the Pond podcast this summer after acquiring Klingberg, I've become just indifferent to Stephens b/c he talked about his family... making him human. We know he doesn't do breaking news well, but I do like his thought out articles (even if some of them have an unwarranted narrative... cough::: Gibson wants to leave... insert new date :::).

On a tangent, I wonder if that law passed in CA stating companies need to offer benefits to freelance writers if they published more than 8 articles? The Athletic can see this as a big fiscal win since they're paying only for one family's medical benefits than two. I'm just speculating here, though.

The amount of King fans in the comment section of his Athletic post saying they just cancelled their subscriptions is crazy lol

Don't forget Terry got voted in by the fans.....

But no one will mistake Zegras for anyone else.

Pretty lame, especially for paying customers. SoCal is a major market, and this comes about a year or two after the Angels had no beat writer for like half a season. I thought the whole point of charging for access was so that they could have dedicated writers covering each team? Guess not anymore.

Just when you thought coverage of our team couldn't get much worse, Stephens has announced that he will be covering BOTH the Ducks and Kings. I obviously don't blame him for doing it, I'm sure he was just told to do so. Now instead of having our beat writer at most, if not all practices/games, he will be at half of them. I'm not even sure if anyone replaced Teaford at the Register, either. Looks like Derek Lee is our only hope.

I had noticed that he had been writing more and more about the Kings lately. Good for him I guess but it just means less coverage for us which sucks.

Felix Sicard is our only hope. :help:

Don’t say that lol.

Anyone know what happened to Lisa Dillman? Wasn’t she the Kings beat writer for TA? Thought she was a pretty big name.

I‘m predicting a bounce back from Comtois. There were too many things that went wrong last year, a lot of it being his own fault but I can’t see how he wouldn’t be motivated this year. He has the skillset to be a good 50 point complimentary winger (especially if he’s playing with Zegras) with some size, even if he ends up closer to 40-45 that’d be huge

Yep time to cancel my athletic subscription to if they're just going to be cheap and skim on content they already don't gave a writer for my nba team
