I‘m predicting a bounce back from Comtois. There were too many things that went wrong last year, a lot of it being his own fault but I can’t see how he wouldn’t be motivated this year. He has the skillset to be a good 50 point complimentary winger (especially if he’s playing with Zegras) with some size, even if he ends up closer to 40-45 that’d be huge

This year is his equivalent to Steel's last year in many ways. Make or break time.

14 national games for Anaheim seems reasonable but wow, that's a lot of disrespect for the President's trophy winners. Yeah, they lost vs Tampa again in the playoffs but that was mostly due to a lack of experience behind the bench. I wouldn't have fired Brunette since you have to be allowed to make mistakes as a head coach as well but they were clearly outcoached, not outplayed by a much stronger team. Anyway, I wouldn't be shocked if Florida remains the team to beat.

In the Ducks very voluntary skates Jones Zegras Terry has been a line the last couple skates. I was able to watch some because I had my D-Rinks coaching jacket on after my clinic. Jones is huge lol Zegras is a magician with the puck, I don't know if I ever seen a player so comfortable with it....

I'm more interested in his game against the puck. Both positioning and physicality are gonna have to be significantly better and the same goes for faceoffs. With Getzlaf gone, sheltering Zegras will no longer be possible. Certainly not to the extent of the 3/4 offensive/defensive zone starts split he got the last season and amount of quality time he got vs bottom six lines or 3rd defense pairings. Zegras being effective without getting sheltered could go a long way for the Ducks next season. He could be the one moving the needle towards the Ducks being a playoff team or a bottom feeder. The Ducks aren't gonna be a contender but if Zegras can make that all important step then I could see them make the playoffs. We all know he can dangle and score but can he actually win (or not lose) the crucial faceoffs and log the big, tough minutes at NHL level the way Getzlaf did? That's what we're about to find out. If he can, it's gonna be an exciting season for the Ducks. It's his team now. McTavish is gonna need at least one more year and all other guys aren't 1C material. Barely 2C I'd say. Also in terms of faceoffs, Henrique is the lone player on the roster who won more than 50% last season.

So when are the rest of the dominos falling? Gotta assume the minor FA signings happen soon since training camp isn't that far away.

Silf was and has been always a sneaky great guy and teammate. Never complains, plays very responsible and hard. I would be shocked if he doesn’t put up 15 this season if healthy and maybe decides to go out of his way about being a little more vocal and vet leadership presence in the locker room.

Is he still an assistant captain? I know he was promoted to be one for the 2019-20 season. (Source) He was the assistant captain last year too, according to the Atheltic.

Multiple people, from Cam Fowler to Adam Henrique to Derek Grant, have worn the “A” when either Manson, Silfverberg or Getzlaf wasn’t available to play. -The Athletic

If Silf is healthy, then I can see him net 15+ goals this year. He hasn't been healthy for the past two plus seasons. Also, Silf can continue helping Lundy grow. They both had a fast start together last year until COVID hit Silf and he never could recover back to how he started the season.

found it odd they mention Lundestrom could play a more prominent role, but then in their projected line up they have him as the 4c...

They have Mahura in over Benoit and Kulikov. So yeah, not sure I’d put much stock in that write up.

Lundy put up nearly 30 points with little to no PP time and they are going to demote him to the 4th line? Makes no sense to me.

Probably start him at wing unless he shows during preseason he can play center at this level already.

I'm hoping McTavish earns a spot at center.

McTavish got in 9 NHL games last year as a winger. 3 AHL games as a center. Played mostly center in the OHL, Played center at the WJC-20. Played wing at Olympics, but had no chemistry.

At the rookie tourney, he'll play center. If he shows up (and stays healthy), then he can carry that momentum into pre-season. 2C is up for grabs between McTavish and Strome, since both are new to the org. It will be very interesting how Eakins/Verbeek deploys McTavish in pre-season. I guess that would be the first tell.

I definitely think he's a better player. I just meant that he needs to show it this season or he's probably out the door.
Yeah very true. I think if Comtois fails with the Ducks he can learn re-invent himself on another team and focus on becoming a physical bottom 6 guy and him to learn focus more on playing defense and less on offensive side.
He has the physical tools to do it if he chooses to.

If i recall, that is what Pulj did, he went from being a offensively focused winger to a defensively responsible forward. I don't think Comtois would be able to become great defensively but i could see him becoming less a liability if he focused on defense more and could become much more physical.
