Now THAT would put some people’s heads in a pretzel and for that reason I hope that it happens.
The mental gymnastics would be GLORIOUS!
He doesn't need to push the narrative when the organization will be paying him for at least 3 more years."harder to play against" while still losing more than you win means absolutely nothing.
Deslaurier is the epitome of dinosaur hockey tropes. Needs to push that narrative so he can keep a job.

In his defense, he's been hit in the head a LOT recently. He doesn't need to push the narrative when the organization will be paying him for at least 3 more years.
The next time this organization makes a smart move will be the first time in a long time. Not if theyre smart and buy him out. You know, in this pretend world some people live in where Briere is a super progressive GM and is gonna clear out all the old guard and their mistakes...
Edit: Technically well still be paying him regardless, obviously, but hed be looking for another contract afterwards.

Fun thought exercise on a Friday: what was the last smart move the Flyers actually made?
I guess firing AV or Fletcher could be considered "smart", but are more realistically postponed acknowledgements of failed moves.Firing Fletcher.
Le sigh.

Depends on what role he's in, I suppose. He was successful as an AGM, a disaster as a GM, so if he's supporting Briere, rather than holding a top job, maybe we've found the correct Peter Principle level for him?I mean, Hextall was fired for locking out all of the advisors that we agree should be fired...so is it that bad of a thing to have him back?
flyers thing would be to hire hextall as president after firing him several seasons ago.
