Torts is a massive asshat. “doesn’t believe in the fatigue factor.” 6 games, 10 days is a significant amount of hockey in a very short time period. He has worms for brains
He's merely refusing to allow his players to use that as an excuse.

Did you see Springer yesterday, played the night before in McCallum, Texas, god knows when they got into Atlanta (no direct flights), played like he had two days off.

The HC may know fatigue is going to effect his team, but he also wants to see who will fight through it and who will use it as an excuse.

He isn't playing 5D psychological chess. He's just an asshole. It's that simple.

You gotta play the games on the schedule. Absolutely no one on this team can give 80% and expect to succeed. This is the time of year guys should be pushing themselves not whining about the grind. If they didn't suck there'd be more to be played

A reaction doesn’t begin to cover my laughter.

What if failing upward wasn’t good enough? What if we found guys who did that in other sports and got their input too?
For me this is the typical way people operate in this Jobs. You know guys from Partys or other agents. Or you need to make yourself more popular in the upper circle so you take guys who are popular in the circles you want to rise to.

Its 100% more political and Ego driven. And its 0% about skill.....

Torts has given his team leeway before when it comes to travel & scheduling.

It’s not like he’s never acknowledged fatigue (particularly mental, but also physical).

Hell, he gives players more off days & optional skates than just about anyone in the league, & expressed semi-frustration with Noah Cates’ attending every optional practice & skate because Torts didn’t want Cates to wear himself out.

But like you said, he also doesn’t want players to use fatigue as an excuse to mail in the end of the season.

This is as simple as those on here who don’t like Torts will find a way to complain about everything he does.

Tortorella played 60 games 3 straight seasons in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. These NHL players don’t even understand the meaning of fatigue.
But he got too tired late this season to coach every game.

I’m listening to it now, just further add some context. He seems to think the Columbus deal the terms are pretty much agreed upon. The reason it didn’t get done at the deadline is because Columbus didn’t want to make payments on his contract for this season. So come summer that’s less payments they would have to make.

The Flyers are just looking to eject from DeAngelo at this point even with little return coming back.
I tried to tell some CBJ fans on the trade forum that Hayes was coming, and they were not having it.

I don’t want to hear **** from some of these guys for an excuse for their bad play. Too often over the last decade there have been guys around here making excuses for their bad play. They make bad plays because they don’t really care and have to wear it. Floaters galore wearing O&B. You don’t hear players from winning programs whine about being fatigued.

This is mythology, the only player in CBJ to complain about Torts was Dubinsky, b/c his was demoted to 3C when he was 30. The next season, he was out of the league - an example of a player unable to admit to himself his skills were declining.

Johansson was traded in January of Tort's first season, but for Sean Jones.

Meanwhile, a lot of his former players enthusiastically praise him.

It comes down to whether a player responds to "tough love," unlike AV, Torts gives 2nd and 3rd chances to work your way out of the doghouse, we've seen that this season. And as we've seen, he benches everyone at some point.
This is your exact problem you have no F ing clue what you are talking about . PLD now play's in Winnipeg and I have talked to him about Tort's I also know a few on the team and they don't want to say to much but role their eyes and smile . Ask Hayes ask TDA and the list goes on . He got fired in Vancouver the same year he was hired cause he was clashing with players .

Myth my ass , you just read reporters junk and they are scared to print anything negative cause he will flip out just like he did on Brooks in NY all the time . Get over yourself thinking you know everything all the time .

Hayes? TDA? Nuff said! If anything, Torts has been too patient with some players this year.

If reporters are afraid, they're pretty spineless, what's he gonna do, shoot them?

I suspect it's more common sense, you look at the Flyers roster, and it's hard to imagine any HC getting more out of this group. The one thing they have done all season is play hard, they have a lot of breakdowns and failure to capitalize on opportunities, but they back check as well as any Flyer team in memory. Some things can't be fixed without more talent, but things like back checking are a matter of effort and discipline, and yes, that is coaching.

For all people whine about the focus on "snipers," if one thing stands out the last few games is how opponents have players who can turn scoring opportunities into goals, while too many Flyers miss the net on high danger shots. We saw with Foerster what a sniper can add. Look forward to Foerster, Brink, Gauthier in a couple years. All the hustle in the world is for naught if you can't turn scoring opportunities into goals.

You've been wildly wrong about Tortorella on every single score this year.

You claimed he's an offensive guru who would demand a youth movement. That he would get the most out of the team. That everyone loves him. We hear about malcontents, guys checked out, he's as hyper focused on defense as ever, and he doesn't want to play youth.

Nothing you say about Tortorella has any credibility. You've created a fictional version of him in your brain that doesn't match the real guy in any way, shape, or form. This is turning into Vancouver 2.0 for him. You know, that thing you refused to acknowledge.

I am sure Farabee's agent was just misquoted.

The Torts style of management summed up in the philosophical brilliant masterpiece Office Space.

Peter Gibbons: Eight, Bob. So that means that when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

I’m pretty sure he was praised for his communication with players, also.

Yeah, that was wrong too.

Farabee has had a good season at ES considering he had to rehab after neck surgery for three months and missed all the preseason games. And it's probably not his fault the Flyers have the worst PP in the league. Of all the young players to cut some slack this season, he was the one. But apparently the dinosaur head coach thought he needed to be poked and prodded like he was some kind of lazy bum.

Wait until he gets the Ashbee...

I'm more excited to see that winner than anything else this year. Do you give it to Provy by default for the 10th time? TDA for the points? Risto for his "comeback"? Seeler for presence?
York. Even though he's faded a bit (probably not used to a 80+ game schedule), he's clearly been their best D-man this season.

They have no defenseman worthy of the award of best defenseman on the team.

York almost certainly will be their best defenseman next season, but he only played 52 games and had plenty of ups and downs himself.

Provorov will get the Ashbee by default, because he was the de facto #1, and then he'll be traded in the off-season and we won't have to complain about him being an overplayed de facto #1 again.
