@deadhead I have a question.
It is February. For months, you assured me that, by now, we'd be entering Month Two of the Revolving Door where we'd see a nonstop stream of prospects getting NHL experience on the third pair and bottom six. I told you that was not going to happen because the people who manage the team do no want it to happen. You in turn said that it is sure to happen because Tortorella will be in charge of the whole team and Fletcher will only exist to obey his commands.
None of that happened. Instead, we have no revolving door because, as I said, management has no interest in playing youth and thinks doing so is a problem.
So. Would you like to admit you were wrong?
No, I didn't say that. You're known for putting words in people's mouths to score points in some stupid ego gratification game.
I said going off CBJ (and even before) Torts will work in 3-4 young players as starters, then toward the end of the season give some prospects cameos to gauge their readiness for the next season. Rinse and repeat.
Torts has never filled the lineup with prospects who aren't ready to play, that isn't his MO.
Of course, there are always spots that open up due to injury.
So far he's elevated TK's role, and started Frost, Cates, Allison, York once the team settled in and the lines were set.
Farabee also starts, but he is in the same role (limited by his lost offseason and need to add strength after neck surgery).
Come March, after the TDL, I expect some players to get looks, but if the Phantoms make the AHL playoffs, this may be limited b/c they'd may prefer prospects play 20 minutes a night in the AHL playoffs than on the 4th line in the NHL.
What I've seen of the prospects in the AHL, none are NHL ready right now, Lycksell, Foerster and Desnoyers the closest, but Lycksell goes MIA too often and Foerster has just recently raised his game. Desnoyers needs to get stronger. Brink has a month of conditioning ahead of him after hip surgery (look how long Lacyznski took to get back to 100%). Zamula has regressed, Attard is still struggling with fundamentals though he flashes on offense, Ginning might be the most NHL ready (albeit with a 3rd pair ceiling).
Hogberg and Wylie seem to have AHL+ ceilings.
