For those without twitter the tweet stated, "John Tortorella on Noah Cates being on the ice for every morning skate: "It pisses me off that he's out on the ice. I'm gonna outlaw those skates because now it's routine for those guys and it's just so wrong."

Torts is mad because some of the guys go out on the morning stake prior to games, and I understand it. There might be something to it. Cates really hasn't been popping like he was last year, and that may just be related to the position that he's been thrust into. But it also may be overtraining/overworking as well. Cates jumped straight into the NHL without any AHL time. His time a college he's only played what, 40 games a season? And it's not the same type of schedule with back to backs, multiple travels etc.

Maybe Torts should healthy scratch him for a game like he did with Hayes and Frost.

Five primary points at 5v5 in 40 games for your #1 center by usage is not ideal.

On the other side of that, however, there is literature out there that states that athletic performance is improved if a short 15-30 minute training session is completed ~8 hours beforehand.

Rest & Recovery is definitely a big factor in athletes performance. I agree with Torts for once. He is the coach though, so he can probably just tell him to stop or limit the morning skates rather than complaining about to the media. He does love serving up his juicy soundbites though. I think he likes that more than coaching.

Maybe Torts should healthy scratch him for a game like he did with Hayes and Frost.

Holy shit they've been using Cates as 1C?

I mean, let's face it, this team does not have a # 1 center. No matter who they plop there, they are playing at least one or two slots above their abilities.

Just having Coots would make a huge difference by pushing everyone down to more appropriate roles.

So wait, they are or they aren't rebuilding?

I've been told MANY times that they are rebuilding but seemingly they're not.

I don't know what to think!

Fans generally prefer apathy and sitting on the fence as opposed to having a clear plan from management. You can really see everyone getting behind the current regime's plan of the last couple years.

To even say it, is one thing. To actually act on it is something else.

Nothing the organization has done this season, from the coaching hire, extensions, trading for TDA - and being so reluctant to move out any piece of actual value screams they are even considering the thought.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

A team that is 27th ranked since the start of the 20-21 season, despite being up against the cap ... is still not convinced they need to rebuild heading into the 23-24 season?

I don't understand. What is so taboo about adopting a strategy that is aimed at making this team competitive for the long run, and executing on it?

The problem, I would guess, is their perspective on "rebuilding," and that it's for losers.

Well, if the shoe fits....

It's the fact that they live in a Tolkienesque fantasy land that makes it so taboo. They don't yet realize the situation that they're in and that is a left hook to the entire fanbase.

The idea that this franchise has yet to grasp where they currently are is just frankly amazing. It takes next level delusion to not see what is right in front of your nose.

I think it’s from the long standing belief that the Flyers will always try to win, no matter what.

This org very much caters to its old guard, but also the fanbase from an era that just isn’t realistic anymore.

It’s a team that really is run like something from 15+ years ago, they had a brief sniff at trying something different with Hextall - but that quickly ended with his firing. It was right back to the status quo.

This is a very obscure trade, and it really doesn't make sense for the Flyers.

I'm not attacking when I ask this, but how did you come up with this as a trade?

Philly gets a young top 4 defender signed long term to a fair contract (who I would argue the most valuable asset in the trade imo) as well as a young forward who could use a change of scenery. Hayes has clearly been on the outside with Torts and at full value would be an extremely difficult contract to move with receiving much if any value. York and Macewan are used to balance out the value difference. If York is viewed as too valuable in this scenario a different defender could be used to help bridge the value.
