2022/23 Roster Thread XIX: 19th Nervous Breakdown

Yep correct on Sanheim. Another chuck blunder.

Losing has been ingrained in these guy like TK Ivan Sanheim and the like. They have accepted it. Me knowing the money will be there would want out 100%. My take is these player are comfortable and believe it or not there is no pressure to win or play in philly imo. They have it easy here compared to other markets. Hockey is so far on the back burner.

The flipside is when 40+ million is thrown in your face that changes things quick.

The way Torts talks leads me to believe he will have a lot of say on the roster and moves they make. Torts despite his talk, which he is just trying to separate himself from any blame, will do what is best for him going forward. He will want to get to the playoffs next year 100% imo.
Torts is committed to rebuilding. This is his last HC job. He has no pressure to win now.
I think what motivates him is leaving a rebuilt team behind him as his legacy, not squeezing into the playoffs.
He'll coach to win, but he'll support personnel decisions based on long-run considerations.

There's no contradiction there - given the players he has, Torts will try to win as many games as possible.
But he won't lobby for veterans at the expense of team building just to win a few more games.

This contradicts your fantasy where he's trying to use this gig to seal his HOF spot.

That is your take. Time will tell. Torts version of rebuilding and mine i bet differ.

Disagree with the bold. It is killing him not having a "good" team.

I think people are still confusing "rebuild" with "tank."

Flyers aren't tanking.

They are taking the long view, they will be moving out players who don't fit down the road, whether due to style of play or age. They will add young assets and patiently build from within.

Tanking is rebuilding. You actually just described tanking.

Flyers outplay Detroit and win 3-0, 5x5, 4x4, Empty net.
Foerster and Zamula making arguments to start next year.

The thing about this winning stretch, the over 30 veterans, JVR, Hayes, Deslauriers, have contributed almost nothing, playing just well enough to sustain some trade value, but that's about it.

They're being carried by Farabee, Foerster, Tippett, Frost, Cates and York. The future core.
Laughton and TDA are on fire, Sanheim is flashing but still inconsistent.
Allison is pretty meh, is he 100%. Bellows had a good game, but has a lot more to do to stick around.
Lemieux is making a good argument to see if Deslauriers wants to waive his NTC for a trade to a playoff team this summer.

needed a good laugh. What playoff team do you see interested in Nic D?

I keep Lemieux for 1 mill over Nic D easily. Torts loves his Nic D however.

Some peeps saying trade Hart for a haul. What is a haul in Harts case?

How many realistic suiters are their for Hart?

Nicky D went for a 3rd rd pick last TDL.
Keep Lemieux, trade Nicky D, retaining $500K and you're still $250 K ahead.

Keep Lemieux

Snow the goalie said it looks like they are bringing back the burnt orange next year as well as a redesign of the black and a white

Apologies to George Carlin, but rebuilding is to tanking as stuff is to shit.

My team tanking is rebuilding. Your team rebuilding is tanking.
No, there is a real difference.

Tanking is when you strip it to the studs, deliberately trying to be terrible for a series of years, hoping to get lottery lucky like the Pens and Devils. So you trade top players in their early 20s for draft picks, not just aging veterans.

Rebuilding is when you shift the focus from the short-term to long-term, dump players too old to contribute when you think you'll turn it around or players who don't fit what the new regime wants in a team. So you build around players in their late teens and early 20s who'll be entering into their prime seasons 4-5 years down the road. If you end up with some high draft picks, it's a byproduct, not the focus, of the process.

Those are the same things. You are the only person in this plane of existence that would make this bizarre and extremely specific distinction.
