Saad (24) 14:57 (23-27 50)
Dubinsky (30) 14:45 (10-26 36) - 248 hits
Jenner (23) 14:04 (16-15 31) - 216 hits
Atkinson (27) 13:59 (22-16 38)
Bjorkstrand (21) 12:23 (26g 6-7 13)
Anderson (22) 11:45 (17-12 29) - 147 hits
Karlsson (24) 11:33 (5-17 22)
Calvert (27) 11:30 (7-4 11)
Gagner (27) 11:16 (10-22 32)
Hartnell (34) 10:38 (11-23 34)
Sedlak (23) 9:06 6-6 12)

So who were the "old dog grinders?"

Tortorella was at odds with his GM in Columbus.

Welp, there goes the entire Flyers rebuild plan!

Uh, the two cutoffs are 80% and 35% - i.e. lot's of top six players, not necessarily stars, and few replacement level types.

The sweet spots may seem trivial, but in the end, they make sense for hockey reasons.

The 80th percentile for forwards gives us 97 forwards this year.

The 75th percentile for defensemen gives us 58 defenders.

The 80th percentile gives us 10 goalies.

Now to me, a legitimate 1st line forward is the median and above (48), second line median (144).
[reason for median is you don't want a 1st line that's below average, do you?]
So you want a bunch of 1st line and top 2nd line forwards.
16 would be the median for #1 D-men, 48 for #2, 80 for #3.
So you want a few 1st pair caliber D-men.

So it's more an argument for building top quality depth than chasing a couple elite players.

????

What????

This is a ridiculous stretch even for you. You get the elite players and it allows you to be able to play second line level players on 3 or even 4 lines. Instead of going "OK thats enough talent" and flooding the roster with grindyboys. You're going to particularly nonsensical lengths to defend Tortorella's malfunctional views.

If anybody watched Tort's talk during his year on the panel having him anywhere in management is hilarious . He spoke exactly the way he thinks . He is a F ing dino .

He also talks about as coaches they have a tendency to over coach players instead of giving them some rope . He is so full of shit ,TDA, Tippet and TK are the only ones given and rope and most of the rest are over structured in all three zones . He loves to talk the talk but is one of the most guilty coaches in the league for over coaching .

Structure in your own end but once they cross the red line let the players create , but nope not here .

We know that the Flyers aren’t going to do an extensive search for a GM candidate so Briere is going to get the job. If Briere has any stones, he’d hire his own coach. I’ve barely watched any games this season but it’s clear they are way, way, way over-structured and it leads to players playing scared to make a mistake. Torts is a smacked ass and he’s easily a more hateable Flyers coach than even AV or Hakstol.

On the one hand, people complain they have no talent and it'll take 7-8 years to rebuild, on the other, they don't score because the coach has scared that non-existent talent out of them.

They were 31st in scoring last year, WITH G. Maybe "no talent" is the right answer?
No G, No Couts, JVR clearly in decline, now TK hurt.
When your four best forwards are three first year starters and a 22 year old coming off neck surgery, what exactly did you expect?

Slashing the ability for players to make plays impacts their ability to make plays, right?

So when a coach runs a conservative system, it suppresses offense more, yeah? Instead of promoting its creation?

So basically, a bad team is being made worse by bad coaching. Just like last year!

open it up a little. You said wins and losses don't matter, I think. Let them loose so to speak, nothing to lose.

Torts is still playing to win games. Period

My god, the Racist has been a tire fire lol
Who you referring too? still pushing that nonsense. Surprised this slander is allowed.

I find the rumors of Tortorella having interest in a office role interesting... Maybe make him the Assistant to the Assistant of Assistants who Assist.
If he actually wants out of coaching, I almost wouldn't mind him being PoHO instead, with the understanding that Danny B has full and complete control over the roster. If his job is limited to managing up and being the conduit between Danny and the front office, that's a great role for him. He's got a measure of credibility (read: is Bully-style dinosaur), so the top brass would listen to him, he and Danny seem to be on relatively the same page, and it would free Danny up to hire a coach who would be more in line with the team's timeline until success.

Also, a mammoth plus: we then don't hire Ray Shero as PoHO.

Having a dinosaur as PoHO is bad. No needs for Torts anywhere in the org.

So completely random but I had a dream a bunch of us got together to go to their practice to voice which players need to go, and tda came out trying to fight so I stepped up and bloodied that boy all up and then we ran and hid from the cops who were chasing us.......this was my dream last night, and I talk in my sleep so I woke my wife up yelling "f*** you tda, you p***y"

Guess the only Flyers dman to have a 5on5 GF% over 50 since the former GM remade the defense in the summer of 2021.

Of course, GF% is just a fancy version of +/-.

Top xGF% (SVA) during that same period [xGFrel]:
York 52.19% [+6.62]
Seeler 46.62% [+1.22]
Sanheim 46.46% [+0.39]
Risto 46.13% [+0.37]
Braun 45.59% [-0.17]
Provorov 45.46% [-1.02]
TDA 42.54% [-5.64]
Yandle 41.40% [-5.84]

I still laugh every time I read someone lazily label Torts a "dino."

Yeah, he's in his 60s. He also has repeatedly stressed the need to get rid of veterans and add more youth.

What people really don't like about him is: 1) He'll criticize their favorite players on occasion; and 2) he stresses defense-first.

I swear some fans here think that all a coach needs to do is design a "Flying V" or similar whiteboard scheme and suddenly a team will become offensive wizards.
