Kinda weird to see Allison and Laczynski back in the AHL with York and Zamula sitting for no reason when I was repeatedly and smugly assured that Braun, Seeler, and Brown would never block any player; that Braun and Brown were meant for the pressbox and Seeler as an AHL vet while I was predicting this scenario unfolding. That the genius Tortorella would NEVER do the exact thing he's doing now, and would ORDER Fletcher not to do it either.

High comedy.

Isn't Allison hurt?

(Not that I disagree with the overall point)

They’re not good enough, and they have only themselves to blame.

They will always love the prospect versions of guys like Cates, and Farabee - over TK, and Frost.

Its the team DNA, and really. At times one wonders why waste time following them? Its not going to change.
Who wouldn't want Farabee over Frost?
TK started at 19, now plays 20 minutes a night, but they don't like him.

Some of the nonsense around here.

Both Frost and Cates are scoring at the same rate 1.20 pp/60. Neither has done much to excite any reasonable observer, but it's early, they're inexperienced and this is what rebuilding is all about. At some point I expect Lycksell to get a shot, and in the spring they'll look at the "kiddie corp" (Foerster, Wisdom, Desnoyers and probably Gauthier).

I'm just going to see how this plays out, by spring it'll sort itself out.
Then next year a few more kids will start, and sink or swim, rinse and repeat.
Look at the under 25 players on the AVs in 2016-17, other than the top 10 picks, most were gone three years later.

If we draft 3 more players in the top 10 the next three drafts, we still need 16 other players.

Man, it’s fine.

It’s more clear by the day, this is a team that’s built/designed/run for folks like yourself - and not for me. Perhaps the realization will turn into action. Or one can hope.

So be it. Be the laughing stock of the league, but that grit and effort eh? It’s a team run by people still living in the past, for fans living in the past.

TL/DR: A line xGF is best predicted by its second best player because it tells you how good your best player is on that line….linemates matter considerably.

From the article:
I find this conclusion really interesting. Are NHL forward lines strong or weak link systems? I guess…. neither? Instead, NHL teams should be ensuring they have a fantastic second option on a line above all else. Here is how I would phrase these results from a hockey perspective.

Stars matter a lot in hockey, but the data suggests that there is only so much one player can do to drive a lines offence. To get the most out a line, the best player will need help. That being said there is still only so much puck to go around, so you hit diminishing returns when upgrading the third best player on a line. So, instead of trying to load up a line with three superstars, you should focus on getting the lines best player a strong second option and that is likely the best way to increase its offensive output.

I think this makes sense if we think about so many of the leagues most efficient offensive players because they often have a great teammate playing alongside them. Think McDavid-Draisaitl, Marner-Matthews, Ovi-Backstrom etc. So, if you are ever mad at your favourite team for playing two great players together I get it, but maybe the team is on to something. The second best player on a line seems like the best predictor of its offensive results

I have to ask, what were you expecting Torts to be like and what made you think that would be the case?

As I was saying. Just bias, safeness, and preferring his flavor of bad play. The Flyers Way.

Management was here when Cates and Frost played together and excelled, and they act like it never happened. Not that it’s not par for the course with this band of morons being aimless and contradictory.

They didn’t forget. They think Cates was the whole reason that pair worked, so they’ve replaced the deadweight Frost.

They’re just that stupid.
