Meltzer said he asked Torts what was going on, and Torts said: Zamula will play when I decide to put him back in. No elaboration.
The fact Zamula is still with the team and not LHV tells you Torts likes him.
If he didn't think Zamula could play, he'd push to send Zamula down and bring up someone like Connauton, who he had in CBJ.
Problem is they have to try and fix Risto (the contract is what it is, Torts is stuck with it), and if you're trying to coach up Risto, you want to partner him with someone safe like Seeler, not a rookie.
But if Zamula is still up, it suggests Torts feels he's NHL ready and by practicing with the team will be better prepared to step into the lineup.
Holy.
When faced with the choice of “Best for Player” or “Position of Weakness,” Chuck Fletcher always goes for the latter. Truly, this is developmental malpractice of the highest order. Not only is he a LW, but this “development” is as a top 9 center. I don’t even think they know what a center does; Cates just gives off responsible vibes so f*** it.
If you think a guy can play center, you try to develop him as such until he proves you wrong.
Centers are harder to find than wings, and even if a guy isn't a long-run starter, the ability to step in at center to fill in when injuries occur makes a player more valuable.
We're rebuilding, the next couple years are when you do things like this, not when you're actually competing for a playoff spot.
