I'm starting to think that the actual worst outcome would be lucking into Bedard. Can you imagine how painful it would be to have him dish prime setups to MacEwen?

I'd love Bedard.... but so much has to go right for that to happen.

When was the last time things went right for the Flyers?

If I'm a GM, I want the draft spot immediately after the Flyers. You know that dude is gonna be a star.

I know i should know this by now so apologies if necessary if this is the wrong spot but a little heat coming out of Vancouver, would anyone here trade provo and, say, frost for horvat? i dont think a package around sanhero would work.
I don't think it's a good time to add another 8 x $7m+ contract for a 28 year old when they have no idea what Couturier's future is. BoHo is having a career season after 17 games (14 goals already), and odds are he will never have a better one.

I'm up for trading Provorov this summer. Preferably for futures.

I agree with you re: Horvat.

That sounds exactly like the move this franchise would make, though. Trying to short-circuit their way to competitiveness.

Nothing wrong with that in isolation - but we don't live in isolation and we've seen how misguided most of Fletch's moves have been.

Unfortunately, no one on the AHL is doing much ES scoring. We know York can run a PP against AHL PKs, but I'd like to see more production from him and other players at ES:
York 11g 1-1 2
Foerster 11g 2-0 2
Desnoyers 11g 3-1 4
Attard 11g 2-1 3
Lycksell 8g 1-2 3
Wisdom 11g 0-3 3
Ginning 10g 0-2 2
Marody 3g 1-2 3

When you're tied with GInning for ES points, well . . .
Could coaching play a role?

They're still being outplayed. "Playing better" is a low bar.
Last 6 games, CF 51.85%, xGF 50.95%.
now the PP has cratered without JVR: GF/60: 5.10, xGF/60: 5.39
and so has the PK, GA/60: 11.08, xGA/60: 12.27

But we're still in the "extended tryout" phase of this season.

Choosing two stats to represent a team's state and quality doesn't work and you know this.

Damn, predicted that the team would regress to the mean. That's some Nostradamus shit.
They were horrendously bad for the first 10 games, so much so that they would have finished with the worst xGF% (~36%), since 2007, and probably longer, but I didn't have the dataset to review. There's no way this team is the worst team in 15 years. They are not good, don't get me wrong, but they not even the worst team in the league this year.

I think the telling stretch will be from December through February, the TDL is March 3rd this year, figure JVR, Braun, maybe Seeler, Sedlak, MacEwen - players with expiring or two way deals that can be added as depth without 2023-24 cap ramifications.

After that I'd expect a stream of AHL call-ups, followed by Gauthier turning pro and joining the team after BC is eliminated from the college playoffs.

After 20 or so games, the team should be on the same page, so we'll get a better read.

“More Assertive” can mean a lot of things when it comes to these dolts like Facepuck. But at least re: Fat f*** Flahr, it undoubtedly means gaining 45 pounds.

Over/under on Ginning being called up to satisfy Flahr’s lust, before York ever is again?

Just what we need. More shitty defenseman who are black holes offensively

They're pushing Cates, but they know he should be the 3LW, problem is Frost should be and is the 3C.
Last few games Frost is playing almost as much as Cates at 5x5.
But you got a 2C playing 1C, tried a 2LW at 2C, a 3LW at 2C, at some point they'll probably give their 3C a shot at 2C.

The whole season is essentially one long audition, so I expect players to get extended looks as long as they don't seem over matched, to see if they can grow into a role. When you see a quick hook (demotion in the lineup or down to LHV) is when a player looks lost, which is why I think Bellows is on borrowed time.

Willman - Frost - Farabee gives Frost a chance to show he deserves more PT, but you have to run with it.
Can't claim Frost is getting the shaft when Cates gets Tippett and MacEwen as his linemates.
