The guy is charge of developing our prospects is the type who believes myths like this

He’s 22 in a month. And Lappy clearly studies his aging curves. Also, when the points leader on the AHL team starts playing more assertive, he’s going to need to start being less assertive and more defensively responsible.

I’m flagellating myself in shame right now.

Just Toews, Girard, Compher, Kadri, Burakovsky, Lehkonen, Nichushkin, Byram, and so on. I mean that’s not bad, but I wouldn’t throw a victory parade over it.

Chuck Fletcher has acquired Ellis, Risto, Atkinson, Hayes, DeAngelo, Deslauriers, Tippett, Yandle, Brown, Seeler. If you’re going to genuflect to Sakic, at least give Fletcher his due.
Bottoms up, bud.

Still trying to figure out which three core players Sakic "inherited," btw.

Is it even realistic for this team to get another 1st, since multiple 1sts is sort of a staple of a rebuild? Short of trading Konecny, Farabee, etc. which shouldn’t happen, do they have anything of value to acquire more high picks? A 3rd straight season of a single top 2 round pick (on pace for 4 straight) would be hilarious with where this team is at. I suppose they might be able to muster a 2nd for prior cap dump JVR. And Fletcher is always shrewd in acquiring a 7th rounder.

Honestly, it’s almost impossible to spend to the cap, trade past and future picks, have an annual bottom 5-10 team, and have nothing you can then flip. It’s downright impressive to fail on so many levels of asset management.

Yeah but have you heard about their rebuild since Torts got into town?

Are you asking about a normal 1st round pick return or a 1st round pick in 5 drafts?

I have different answers, depending on which you mean.

It would have been nice if JVR stayed healthy, hopefully, he returns and has a hot streak going into the TDL.
With 50% retained (or more by taking a contract back) he might get you a first if he's coming off a 10 goal in 20+ game stretch.

JVR went from requiring a 2023 top 10 1st to dump for 1 year to netting a 1st with a little retention? I’ll believe that when I see it. But it would certainly blow up the forum narratives we read all summer, with JVR being Hextall’s organizational anchor, which would be entertaining.

I've been told multiple times it was that 1 contract that has tied Fletcher's hands from doing anything from a cap perspective to build a winner here these past 4 years

Value is very different at the TDL if you're willing to eat a salary. Teams that don't want to chance that an expensive 33 year old might fall off the cliff in October will bet on the same player if he has a hot stretch starting in January or so, b/c now they only worry about getting 20 games plus the playoffs out of him - and if you can help them stay under the cap the value is higher.

Sakic has also brought in players like Nichushkin, Saad, and Kadri. He played the Duchene situation perfectly.

It's genuinely pathetic for anyone to try to paint these men and organizations in the same stroke.
Man that duchene trade was f***ing epic. I wish we can do something similar

tbh these "good" starts are actually a good thing. It gives some fans hope and then once the team inevitably shits the bed, those same fans will ask for blood---just like last year. Here's hoping for multiple losing streaks.

Unfortunately, no one on the AHL is doing much ES scoring. We know York can run a PP against AHL PKs, but I'd like to see more production from him and other players at ES:
York 11g 1-1 2
Foerster 11g 2-0 2
Desnoyers 11g 3-1 4
Attard 11g 2-1 3
Lycksell 8g 1-2 3
Wisdom 11g 0-3 3
Ginning 10g 0-2 2
Marody 3g 1-2 3

When you're tied with GInning for ES points, well . . .
