Hard disagree. Not with Frost and Allison getting minimal minutes and benched for nonexistent problems, Zamula sitting, and York getting sent down to be crippled in the AHL while Sedlak is brought in to ensure Laczynski gets minimal time.
Guys in Thier mid twenties with very little difference between them. I'm being patient because they should separate themselves over time.
Rotating zamula isn't my favorite move but I understand letting the kid adjust. I just hope it's being communicated that it's not a punishment

The Flyers are bound to misevaluate and let the good players separate upwards somewhere else, presuming they aren't firmly ruined by then.

Torts love list and Torts disgusted list,,,,,,

Love
Hart, Hot Rod, Cates, Tipper, Seelsy, Shit Truck, Big Mac, Sedlak, Risto, Provy, TLD

Disgusted - Benched, Scratched, time reduced

Frost, Sanheim, Hayes, Zamula, Farabee,

Middle

TK, Sandstrom

C’mon you have to sit Frost. I mean how could you possibly ice a forward group with only one punching bag?

Leafs were playing scared out there, they appeared terrified,

I’d make Torts the de facto GM. I trust his evaluations more than anyone.

Have a front office GM who is the facilitator & handles the amateur & minor league sides, but follow Torts’ evaluations of who stays, who goes, & what players to try to bring in.

What a disaster that would be.

Oh wait, it would in increase the chances of a thorough management purge and maybe even the end of the scumbag Clarke as part of the team.

Yeah let's immediately do this wrong move.

Torts has been pretty clear about players and expectations.

Frost - if you're a scorer, score and all is forgiven, don't produce offense and you'd better play defense.
Zamula - he's consistently praised him, right now he's easing him in but I expect he'll get more TOI as the season progresses
Allison - don't get cute, your game should be north-south, win puck battles, set up linemates
Provorov - no PP time until you improved your 5x5 play

As far as analytics, Torts doesn't reject them out of hand, he says his primary metric is scoring chances for and against, but he relies on proprietary team data (who was actually responsible), not public aggregate (i.e. being on ice) data.

And he's said they're being outplayed and it'll take time to turn that around.

He's stuck with the talent on this team, he could bench Risto, but what would be the point right now, to maintain any value he needs to turn his game around, the contract is what it is. Same with Sanheim, who's off to a shaky start on his own (losing a lot of puck battles in the D-zone like last night).

It's going to be a long season, I wouldn't read too much into anyone's playing time right now, Torts is mixing and matching.
He likes MacEwen's size and skating and energy, but that will only carry him so far.
Frost will get opportunities, but he's 23, time to end the excuses and make plays.
And so on.

If they had to use Provy on the PP it should be as a second dman who focuses on shooting. He clearly cannot run a PP as the lone defenseman.

And then to throw Bellows on there with no one to feed this alleged sniper with quality passes.... it's outrageously bad coaching.

It's going to be a long season, focusing on one or two games is kinda silly.

Be thankful Torts isn't focused on winning, b/c a HC worried about keeping his job would employ some version of the Hakshell, a very conservative scheme designed to keep games close and hope your goalie can steal wins. Bore the opponent into surrender.

Instead the Flyers are employing an aggressive two man forecheck with D-men aggressively pinching, which creates scoring chances (that they've struggled to finish) but also leads to odd man rushes the other way. It exposes who can skate and keep up, which is more useful for player evaluation.

Besides struggling to finish, the biggest problem is getting the puck back in the D-zone, they lose too many puck battles and panic under pressure, and lack the quickness to challenge the puck on the cycle.

If you're looking for elite offensive play, first you need to add some elite offensive players. They have one, TDA (the turnovers are an issue, but he can actually skate, pass and shoot).
Frost has looked like dog shit, make all the excuses you want, but Tippett is a better skater with the puck.
The only time Frost has looked decent is on the power play, when he can hang out in space and try to make plays.
But he lacks the vision and elusiveness of G.

TK and Farabee would be fine on the first line with a 1C, Hayes healthy is a solid 2C, but has no business playing on the first line.

My favorite part of having Provy on the PP is all of the rope they give him to hang himself, briefly realizing they should try someone else after dozens of games, and then aborting that plan as soon as there are not an immediate results. What did Zamula get two games on the PP? Sure enough we turn back to the guy we know is not good but has done it rather than try the unknown that may be good but hasn't done it.

I am focusing on the big picture.

Tortorella is a conservative scheme coach. Their offense is basically playing defense in the O-zone. Grind along the boards, generate few chances because that's risky. Risk is to be avoided. Players who take risks are benched.
remember when he was working on that commo panel job last year and said " in todays NHL safe is death"..

lol...

Zing...
