The whining comes down to a few items, mostly short-term:

1) York played like crap in pre-season, some here think Torts should have played him anyway b/c he's a touted prospect
2) Frost has been inconsistent, benched for one game - end of the world
3) MacEwen has been allowed to compete with Bellows, Allison and Laczynski for three spots
4) Zamula has been rotated in the third pair instead of given a full-time spot immediately
5) Deslaurier's 8 minutes a night with one of the best xGFrel on the team is unjustifiable
6) they signed and used Sedlak at 4C, even though he's clearly outplayed all the alternatives, he's blocking ???
It's not one single act, it's what all of those acts in conjunction represent. It's the BS mantra that play you have to play the right way, when the way Torts/Fletch want the team to play is antiquated and will not lead to any type of tangible success. It's the lack of foresight; it's the same development process that has failed to unlock even one marginal prospect. Simply put, they don't know what they are doing is absolutely wrong. The whole hockey world is laughing at this team, and they are doubling down on incompetence.

Don't you have to draft raw talented players to develop raw, talented players?
TK and Sanheim both developed.
Who else qualifies?

TK and Sanheim despite bad usage and situations, and it's worth wondering if they have actually hit their full possible potential. I don't think they have.

They're all in that "too good to fully fail" category.

So "when it comes to analytics, Torts looks at scoring chances for and against"

Flyers 2nd last in scoring chances for: 143
Flyers 2nd most in scoring chances against: 281
Flyers dead last in SCF%

Can't remember, is it good to give up 2 scoring chances for every 1 you get?

Culture engaged!

They have in-house analytics that are better than shoddy public data. The Flyers league largest analytics department has them 8th in scoring chances.

It's not a BS mantra, in any sport mastering fundamentals is a key to getting the most out of your talent.

Proper positioning isn't sexy, blocking shots isn't sexy, but they make your goalie's life easier.

Back checking isn't sexy, but it's saved the Flyers a bunch of goals b/c odd man rushes don't have a lot of time b/c if they don't strike immediately, back checkers show up and save the day. Give the opposing offense an extra second and you're in trouble.

Winning board battles isn't sexy, but one reason they spend so much time in their D-zone is they lose too many of these battles and can't regain the puck. Same with simple exit passes out of the D-zone, two line passes are sexy, simple passes to an open forward however keeps the puck going the other direction.

Doing these things do not detract from offensive skill, in fact, by allowing the team to gain and retain possession, they allow offensive players more opportunities to make plays.

There’s massive egos within high places in this organization. So that should be some good potential entertainment value when the ship sinks. That’s really all we have to look forward to these days with the consistent side show this organization supplies on & off the ice.

So far Torts has been exactly as advertised. We knew that he would stress physical play and that he would try to challenge certain players by scratching them, reducing their icetime... all the tough love repertoire to see who responds in what way. Mistakes are forgiven but lack of buy-in or swagger are immediately punished. Prospects either grow as person and arrange themselves within the situation, or they will be left behind.
I’m looking forward to seeing players get weeded out.

Torts has no illusions about this team, this year it's about structure and player evaluation.

But he's not going to make hasty decisions, like he said, there's a revolving door with LHV, stand out there and sooner or later you'll get a shot in Philly to show you belong.

People wanted a rebuild, well, get used to this, rebuilds are slow, and teams that successfully rebuild don't just throw rookies in the lineup and let them sink. I think this is more like TB than CBJ, it'll take 2-3 years to be competitive again.

None of this is his decision. If the revolving door existed it would have been used instead of bringing in waiver fodder.
