The whining comes down to a few items, mostly short-term:So far Torts has been exactly as advertised. We knew that he would stress physical play and that he would try to challenge certain players by scratching them, reducing their icetime... all the tough love repertoire to see who responds in what way. Mistakes are forgiven but lack of buy-in or swagger are immediately punished. Prospects either grow as person and arrange themselves within the situation, or they will be left behind.
The whining comes down to a few items, mostly short-term:
1) York played like crap in pre-season, some here think Torts should have played him anyway b/c he's a touted prospect
2) Frost has been inconsistent, benched for one game - end of the world
3) MacEwen has been allowed to compete with Bellows, Allison and Laczynski for three spots
4) Zamula has been rotated in the third pair instead of given a full-time spot immediately
5) Deslaurier's 8 minutes a night with one of the best xGFrel on the team is unjustifiable
6) they signed and used Sedlak at 4C, even though he's clearly outplayed all the alternatives, he's blocking ???
That's not true. The second that the coach or GM is fired then all of the blame gets put on them after years of defending. We've yet to find the coaching or management decision you won't endlessly defend or justify.
Isn't that what they always do in every situation? Bring a guy up, he doesn't excel in a short stint although he shows more promise than an established vet, send him down. Player fails in a few brief stints on a top line, or a PP unit, back to the old standby who also doesn't produce results. My favorite part of having Provy on the PP is all of the rope they give him to hang himself, briefly realizing they should try someone else after dozens of games, and then aborting that plan as soon as there are not an immediate results. What did Zamula get two games on the PP? Sure enough we turn back to the guy we know is not good but has done it rather than try the unknown that may be good but hasn't done it.
Literally the worst team in the league at shot attempts.
It's not a rebuild.
Then, when it inevitably breaks down, they’d trade it, along with a 2nd round pick, for a 10 year old Ford F-150 with 150,000 miles on it.The Flyers would buy a McClaren and use it as a farm vehicle against all expert advice.
From top to bottom, in all departments, this organization is run by mouth breathing idiots.
Cuck is a spineless empty suit who yearns for consensus from a group of dinosaurs who can actually only get it up when someone is fighting, hitting or blocking a shot. The HC is an out of touch narcissist who has no concept of how to coach modern NHL hockey players or the how today’s game is best played.
The (lack of) developmental staff might even be more incompetent than the management team as they continually strive to pound the creativity out of any player who dares to show any. This group would have kept Gretzky in the minors because he didn’t block enough shots! And finally the medical staff makes Drs Mengele and Frankenstein look good.
But hey, keep on buying Gritty merch, Santa sacks and $20 beers and the suits at corporate will happily keep counting your money.

Yeah but can you explain WHY Fletcher extended Risto after it was put out that they were far apart in a contract?!Unintentionally bottoming out because you made the roster considerably worse over the years is not rebuilding. If they were rebuilding they wouldn’t have extended guys like Coututier, Ristolainen, Laughton, Sanheim, etc. to lucrative contracts in recent years.
Without a doubt. They would blame McClaren for the whole thing.
The Flyers need to "see what they have" this year, even though we already know that what they have is a group of literal idiots pretending they know how to run an NHL hockey teamIt's not a rebuild.
Without a doubt.
Believe it or not, I used to love this team. Hell, I obsessed over them, even wrote a book about them.
Now? Now I hate them so much if the organization was on fire, not only wouldn’t I even bother to piss on them, but I’d run to the nearest gas station to get a few gallons to pour on it.
They'd blame the person that gave it to them. They would blame McClaren for the whole thing.
This is the saddest part of it all.Without a doubt.

The problem with this organization has been the inability to face reality in the hard cap era - at some point you have to stop patching and tear it down and build back up from the foundation. As long as they could buy their way out of mistakes they could try and patch their way into contention.
Now they're forced to face the ugly truth - because Torts won't lie for them. He's made it clear its a rebuild.
Rebuilding doesn't mean you throw every prospect into the lineup at once and let them struggle and hope they play their way through it. You want to establish structure and have enough veterans to hold the hands of prospects instead of letting them flounder.
It simply means you accept that it's a long-term process and think 3-5 years ahead instead of focusing on this season.
