Any chance we pick up good UFA this summer? And is there a need for us to be buyers?
JT Compher maybe, or Domi?
I think we need older guys, late 20's to speed up our rebuild and just help this team to be better team all around.

I imagine we will be looking at UFA dmen quite extensively

That's what we all imagined last off-season. We got plugs. Question is, are we still finding plugs?

If he can find a player on the D side that can find success like Vatrano has here will be good. Of course a Top 4 D is more difficult to fill than a middle six forward. But one can hope. lol

Do we really just have one remaining contract slot open and it’s for Lacombe?

Too bad we try to lure some big dmen like Livingstone or Hardy.

How do we have such little space on such a crappy team… we need to manage our contract space better so we can at least try to sign free talent.

There will be plenty of open spots what with expiring contracts and unqualified RFAs once the UFA signing period begins. Lacombe is taking a spot for THIS season.

But we will be missing the chance to sign prospects that are going to sign now like Livingstone. It sounds like Axtell Hardy will as well and he appears to be a top EURO UFA. I’d rather us roll the dice on cheap Regenda types than overpaid long contracts for old players like a Mayfield. There doesn’t seem to be many options in the UFA pool for real shutdown big dmen under 30 yrs old. It will be difficult to attract players to our organization so we have really limited options.

I’m just imagining another really long season with Shatt paired up with Cam, Drysdale, Lacombe and continuing to be horrible in front Gibson.

There's not a real organizational need for more D prospects so I'm not surprised they didn't leave room for young UFAs beyond our own guys. I think you can expect some defensive plugs as UFAs on short term deals unless PV sees any benefit to giving a long term spot on D to a vet who isn't Cam.

the only two dmen in this org i know i want to see next year are Fowler and Drysdale.

I imagine LaCombe will get some time as well.

UFA dmen of interest:
-Orlov
-Severson
-Soucy
-Graves
-Gavrikov
-Mayfield
-Clifton

Pretty respectable group overall. Severson would be a nice add as well as one of Soucy/Mayfield who are very reliable stay at home guys. Clifton is an interesting dman but I think he would a tire fire in our system (I watch a lot of Boston). Orlov is the best of the bunch but I don't think he makes a lot of sense with our window give that he's a bit older.

I'd hope we sign a couple of these guys, price depending. I imagine we will resign Shattenkirk whether I like it or not for like 2x2 maybe.

Regardless you cannot go into next a season with a defense as bad as bas this years. You just can't. It's going to be a huge development year for Drysdale and he needs actual structure not a bunch of AHL/waiver guys. Gibson needs to not be shellacked every goddamn game to have any hope of him putting up league average numbers. It's not good for an organization to be so awful.

We are down to only Zegras, Strome, and Fowler playing in every game for us this season, McTavish, Silfverberg, and Vatrano each only missing one game. Will be just Strome and Fowler if Z can't go tomorrow.

Silf has looked like a shell of his former self this year (though not quite as cooked as I was worried during the first half of the season), but it should be noted that he's on track to play his most games in a season since 2015-16.

Wonder if it’s just a maintenance day for Z. Didn’t seem too bad the injury. Hopefully get more info after practice. Terry back on the ice is a good sign at least.
