With Nesterenko we're at 23 and there's no roster limit after the TDLThe interesting part of this is who gets waived?

I get the contract, as a Ducks fan I get perfectly well that college FAs have leverage. But I don't get why PV said he'd do something else. Had he not negotiated yet? Did he change his mind? Just talking out of his ass? It's the difference between what he said and what he did that I find weird about this contract.Verbeek really has absolutely no leverage here. The kid wants his money if he’s gonna wind up with a garbage quality franchise. If he’s going to the AHL and not burning a year off the ELC, then he could likely get that contract from most of the teams in the league.
It’s not like the kid will be taking ice time away from a future lynchpin of the franchise.
Similar to saying he wants a team that’s tough to play against then stripping virtually all physicality from the roster.I get the contract, as a Ducks fan I get perfectly well that college FAs have leverage. I know the reason is $ but I find it funny hearing GMPV talk about not rushing prospects to the NHL then signs a college prospect and before the ink is even fully dry, NHL Debut!

It’s entirely possible that the kid got feedback that said other teams were interested and forced his hand. It’s also entirely possible that Verbeek is out of his depth.
Yeah and one thing to add, NCAA prospects supposedly weight train way more than junior prospects due simply to the amount of games. So you would expect them to be more prepared physically. Not so sure it is the case with Nesterenko but as mentioned, mid-season signings are a special case. This transaction is about securing the college talent by using up a year of his ELC. Or that player becomes a UFA to sign elsehwere. How many games will Nesterenko get this year is unknown. Our very own Terry did the same transactions, played two games in the NHL after his college season was over. The next year, he started off with the Gulls.
We'll be doing the same thing in April when D LaCombe's college season is over.

Both played yesterday after he was signedCompletely speculating, but maybe the Nesterenko signing was reactionary to one of Grant or Silfverberg being shut down for the season due to injury. Not sure how likely that is, but just figured I throw another dart on the board.
Yeah, but did they play? Both played yesterday after he was signed
Waived and playing for the Gulls againHas there been anything on Kirkland since that incredibly bizarre car crash he got into? I haven’t seen anything but possible I missed it
Thanks, shows how much I keep up on players like that hahaWaived and playing for the Gulls again
Nice to see the young core putting in extra work
Seems more of the contract negotiation. Sign here, we will play you to burn one year of elcI know the reason is $ but I find it funny hearing GMPV talk about not rushing prospects to the NHL then signs a college prospect and before the ink is even fully dry, NHL Debut!
