Deslauriers has proven he's a horrible hockey player and got 4 years.
Hockey isn't all about the puck skills of 4th liners. Sometimes, getting 15 points but also being a hard hitter and forechecker and one of the most feared fighters in the league actually does more for a team than a weakling who scores 25-30 points and avoids contact and offers nothing else.

Gotta stop with the points = everything judgment, especially when talking 15 pts vs 25-30 pts.

Flyers stuff starts around 12 mins. No surprises. Some people in-house tried to get them to go for Gaudreau, but they were never in it. He was told this in advance by multiple sources and he was "too chicken-hearted" to report it.

Friedman specifically says they wanted to see Provorov under a new coach. I'll let you all interpret that. The general idea is that they're banking on Tortorella to turn around a whole bunch of careers.

He also mentioned Ellis being a problem at basically every turn. He dead.

Frost. Age 23. $800k player. 77 games, 23 pts.

Kinda feels like he's been severely overrated.

(That said, I'm hoping he storms this season. They need it.)

Friedman says Philly was JG's number one choice once he was definitely leaving Calgary, no doubt about it. But Friedman was told that Philly was never going to be in it.

They had guys available for trade like Provorov and TK but were getting under value offers because the team was so bad last season.

Confirms teams wanted the Flyers 2023 1st for JVR, not the Florida 2024 1st.

Management is basically banking on Torts working miracles.

It is beyond clear Fletcher's exact thought process is "to be a good team we need a 'Stanley Cup caliber coach'" and just expected AV and Torts to fix all his issues

Yeah, why would we want a player like Gaudreau? Don't need a 100 point player when we have a couple 50 point players.

frost a UFA at the end of the deal? He may have set the term. If he doesn’t want to come back here then we can trade him when we are eliminated. We should look to get assets that can be flipped at the deadline for picks at this point. Not Frost ideally, but others.

He won't be a UFA till he's 27.

You get fours years of RFA status after a standard ELC.

Think he has 3 more RFA seasons.

Curufinwe beat me to it.

Don't think Torts has to work miracles, 2020-21 was a screwed up season, 2021-22 AV mailed it in and Yeo sorta got the team on track only to be derailed by more injuries. So a lot of young players may look better with stability and coaching structure - and that's one thing Torts will provide.

Fletcher was right not to make moves, selling low because you want to bust things up is a bad strategy.
If they decide to rebuild, better the fire sale occurs after some players have recovered value.

Frost has played 77 games.
And not a single punch!

This hasnt been true for a decade now. It's the exact opposite of what is true and where the league is going. It's why the good teams don't have those players, don't rely on them, and they're going extinct fast. That the Flyers still build with this mindset is a major reason why they're so terrible and just getting worse.

Guess the “Torts will build the roster” thing failed so now it’s on to “Torts is an offensive mastermind.”

Despite, you know, him saying that he doesn’t have a grasp of that side of the game and needs the assistant to carry the load.

And the assistant he hired to carry that load is.....

Former goon and anti-vax clown Rocky Thompson

So explain Cogliano - Helm - Strum - O'Connor?

Depends on the team and their personnel.
TB was playing slow skilled veterans on their 4th line, sheltering them, Torts did the same at times in CBJ.
If your top three lines play a lot of minutes, then the 4th line is where you stash specialists (Maroon PP, PEB PK).

Few teams have twelve skilled forwards a HC trusts on the ice against tough matchups.

None of them are Thompson/Stewart/MacEwen/Deslauriers type players. None of them. It's like comparing apple pie to a bowl of manure dust.

Or Bunnaman, Twarynski, Ruby, Kase type players.

Though I think MacEwen would have looked pretty good on the Avs, just go to the net and set screens for Makar.
Colorado has a bunch of fast forecheckers with limited skills, we had that in PEB.

That's my ideal 4th line, three fast forecheckers who can match up against top lines for a minute and harass them while better players get a breather. I mean you're not going to have a skilled 4th line for very long, either they move up or they'll leave in FA.

MacEwen would have looked like shit on the Avs and they wouldn't have even iced him. He's trash. He's Fletcher's favorite kind of player, someone who looks busy via inefficiency but does nothing of substance.

Sakic is a better GM than Fletcher. He recognizes when a player provides nothing.
